As soon as Chloe’s plane landed, she moved in with her best friend, Paige Miller.

“Chloe, you loved him so much. Can you really just let go of that relationship? You guys were together for so many years. I still remember on your twentieth birthday, your only wish was to spend the rest of your life with Ryan.”

Chloe was silent for a moment.

It was true.

She and Ryan had been together for eight whole years.

She took a deep breath, her voice calm and full of acceptance. “When you stop loving someone, you naturally let go. I really did want to grow old with him once, but fantasy can’t compete with reality. The moment he chose Jessica, any possibility between us was gone forever.”

She raised her wine glass and took a small, deliberate sip.

“I’m looking forward now. I’ve never been afraid to start over.”

The next day, Chloe reported to the headquarters and completed her new employee onboarding process.

After work, Paige would take her around to get familiar with the new neighborhood.

A few days later, Paige went on a business trip. Chloe, not paying attention to the weather forecast, got caught in the rain on her way home from

work.

When she got home, she immediately jumped into the bathroom for a hot shower.

Just as she finished, she heard the front door open. Chloe called out, surprised.

“Paige? I thought your flight wasn’t until tomorrow. What are you doing back so early.”

With that, she slipped on her pajamas and opened the bathroom door.

Their eyes met. Chloe stood frozen in the doorway, staring at the man in the living room.

Her expression was instantly awkward. “Ethan, what are you…”

She trailed off mid–sentence.

Ethan Miller was Paige’s older brother. It wasn’t really that strange for him to be here.

It was just that the timing was a little inopportune.

She hesitated for a second, then decided to speak up.

“Are you looking for Paige? She left on a business trip yesterday. She probably won’t be back until tomorrow.”

The tips of Ethan’s ears were bright red.
