Chapter 13
That night, Ryan got blackout drunk at a bar.
The entire time, Jessica was blowing up his phone with a frantic barrage of calls and texts.
[Ryan, why aren’t you answering my calls? Where did you go with that little tramp!?]
[Did you take her to a hotel? I love you so much, I would literally die for you! How can you do this to me!]
[Ryan, where are you? I know I was wrong. I won’t cause any more trouble, I promise, Please just come back?]
[Do I have to actually die for you to finally love me?]
Ryan coldly blocked her number.
It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning that he finally stumbled out of the bar. He didn’t get far before a wave of dizziness washed over
him.
He leaned against a brick wall, gasping for breath.
From a nearby alley, he heard the voices of two unfamiliar men.
“Those rich folks over on the Upper East Side are seriously loaded. Me and my brother were dumpster diving over there yesterday and found a ton of good stuff!”
“This watch alone has got to be worth over a hundred grand, easy!”
“You lucky son of a bitch, you really hit the jackpot. Let’s find a place and get a good steak dinner later!”
Hearing the familiar neighborhood name, Ryan instinctively turned his head. When he saw the watch in the man’s hand, his pupils constricted.
That was the custom–made gift Chloe had given him for their first wedding anniversary.
There wasn’t another one like it in the entire world.
Ryan rushed over and snatched it from the man’s hand.
“This is mine!”
He turned to leave with the watch.
Seeing this, the two men immediately stepped in front of him, their faces turning menacing.
“I found it, so it’s mine! Hand over the watch, asshole!”
In the ensuing struggle, the watch fell to the ground, and a crack appeared on its crystal face.
A red haze of fury instantly clouded Ryan’s vision.
He threw a vicious punch, hitting the man squarely in the face.

Chapter 131
The other man, seeing his buddy get hit, grabbed an empty beer bottle from the corner of the alley and smashed it over Ryan’s head.
The bottle shattered against Ryan’s skull with a sickening crack.
Blood streamed down his forehead. His vision went black, and he collapsed weakly to the ground,
Seeing that things had taken a serious turn, the two men quickly turned and ran.
The watch was trampled into the mud, its face completely shattered in two.
Ryan forced himself to crawl towards the watch.
With his last ounce of strength, he clutched the broken watch tightly in his palm, and then lost consciousness completely.
When Ryan woke up again, he was in a hospital bed.
His childhood best friend, Josh, was sitting by his side.
“Ryan, how are you feeling? Do you hurt anywhere else?”
But Ryan didn’t say a word.
Just as Josh was starting to get really worried.
He saw Ryan pull a watch out from under his hospital gown.
The face was completely shattered, and it was still covered in dirt and dried bloodstains.
But Ryan, who was usually a bit of a neat freak, clutched it like a precious, irreplaceable treasure.
He murmured to himself, “It’s okay. I got it back. I won’t lose you again, I promise. Never again.”
Seeing him in this state, Josh’s face turned red with anger.
“Ryan, are you insane? You got into a brutal fight over a broken watch! If a passerby hadn’t found you and brought you to the hospital, you could have literally died in that alley last night!”
Ryan’s eyes were red–rimmed as he said, his voice thick with emotion.
“Chloe gave this to me. I would have given my life to get it back.”
By the end, his voice was trembling slightly.
