The moment Chloe stepped out onto the roof, a shrill voice pierced her ears.
“Ryan, you promised! You promised you’d be with me! Why did you suddenly block me? What did I do wrong? Just tell me, and I’ll change, I swear! Please, just come back with me, I really can’t live without you!”
Jessica was standing right on the ledge, her eyes red and puffy, tears streaming down her face.
And Ryan stood opposite her, his face a cold, hard mask.
“Stop making a scene, Jessica. I’ve already made myself perfectly clear. The only one I’ve ever loved, from start to finish, is Chloe. Go back, get some professional help, and find a man who will actually love you. Just stop bothering me.”
With that, he turned to leave, but then he spotted Chloe in the crowd and instinctively started walking towards her.
But behind him, Jessica burst into a wild, crazed laugh.
“Chloe, Chloe, it’s always Chloe!”
“Today, I’m giving you two choices only.”
“Either you come back with me and we get married, or I jump off this roof right now and die right in front of you!”
Jessica stared at him, her eyes blazing with a terrifying intensity, one foot dangling precariously over the edge.
The people in the crowd gasped in horror.
“Get down from there! Please, don’t joke about your own life!”
“Yeah, there’s so much more to life than just love. Don’t do something you’ll regret for the rest of your life.”
“Don’t be rash! Think about your family and friends, please don’t make them suffer.”
Amidst the chorus of desperate pleas, Ryan suddenly looked up.
His voice was ice–cold. “Then go ahead and die.”
At his words, the air seemed to freeze, a stunned silence falling over the rooftop.
Everyone turned to look at him in utter disbelief.
Even Chloe’s face showed a flicker of surprise.
She had been so sure that Ryan would give in again. After all, he had been willing to sacrifice even her life for Jessica in the past.
Ryan’s eyes were bloodshot, filled with a deep, burning hatred.
“I would rather die than marry you. I’ve always loved Chloe, and only Chloe. If it wasn’t for you constantly pestering me, threatening to kill yourself every other day to force my hand, Chloe and I would never have ended up like this!”
“Since you’re so damn eager to die, then just do it. It’s your life, after all, not mine.”
“To be honest, I really regret it. If I had known back then that I would lose Chloe in the end, I never would have saved you.”

Chapter 18
That last sentence completely and utterly shattered Jessica’s psychological defenses.
“Ryan! I gave you everything! I groveled like a dog with no self respect, chasing after you for eight whole years, and this is how you repay me? After everything I’ve sacrificed for you, how could you do this to me!”
