“You bitch! You must have seduced Ryan away from me!”
“I should have just killed you back then! If it wasn’t for you, Ryan and I would have been together a long time ago! Why don’t you just die!”
Jessica screamed curses at Chloe like a woman possessed.
The people in the crowd also turned to look at her, their eyes now filled with contempt.
As if she were some calculating mistress who had not only broken up a relationship but had also driven an innocent woman to suicide.
Chloe frowned and was about to explain when a sharp voice cut through the noise from behind her.
“You can’t even keep your own man in check, so now you’re just lashing out at everyone else?”
Ethan stepped in front of Chloe, shielding her.
He had been waiting downstairs for a long time, and when Chloe didn’t appear, and he heard the commotion about someone going to jump, he’d had a terrible feeling.
He just hadn’t expected to come up here and find Jessica screaming abuse at her.
“If you’re so obsessed with Ryan, then go after him. Even if you end up killing him and forcing him into some posthumous marriage with you, I won’t say a damn word.”
“But don’t you let me hear you say another bad word about Chloe. I’m not nearly as soft–hearted as Ryan is.”
Ryan heard the biting sarcasm in his voice, and his face turned a mottled shade of purple and green.
He grit his teeth and tried to defend himself. “Chloe, I had no idea she followed me here.”
But Chloe cut him off with a voice like ice.
“Ryan, in these eight years, I can honestly say I have never once done anything to wrong you. Even when you clearly fell for Jessica, I bowed out as gracefully as I could. So why do you insist on dragging me into this disgusting, toxic mess time and time again?”
Ryan’s face went completely white, his voice trembling.
“No, that’s not it! I don’t like Jessica! Please don’t be like this. I’ll fix everything, I promise.”
Chloe pointed to Jessica, who was glaring at her from across the rooftop as if she wanted to stab her to death.
“This is your idea of ‘fixing everything‘? Letting her cause a massive scene at my company and completely destroy my reputation? I’m begging you, Ryan. Just leave me alone, please?”
By the end, the raw annoyance and utter disgust on her face were impossible to hide.
Ryan’s eyes reddened, his throat feeling tight and constricted, and he couldn’t manage to say another word.
Ethan shot a cold, warning glance at the crowd of onlookers.
“Chloe Sullivan has absolutely nothing to do with these two. I don’t want to hear a single negative rumor about her after this. Otherwise, I will

not hesitate to pursue legal action against anyone who spreads them.”
With that final threat hanging in the air, he took Chloe’s hand and turned to leave without a moment’s hesitation.
Watching the two of them leave together, a sharp pang of pain shot through Ryan’s heart, and he started to go after them.
But behind him, Jessica’s heart–wrenching scream echoed again.
“Ryan, don’t you dare leave me!”
Later, Chloe found out what had happened after they left from her colleagues.
Apparently, Jessica had caused a scene on the roof for a long time, alternating between screaming curses and desperate pleading, but she never actually seemed to have any real intention of jumping.
Finally, Ryan had gotten completely fed up and, ignoring the rescue workers‘ attempts to stop him, tried to force his way out.
Jessica had immediately panicked and started to run after him.
But then, something completely unexpected happened.
She tripped on the low railing at her feet, and her body fell backward uncontrollably.
As everyone watched in horror, she plummeted straight to the ground.
Luckily, because she had stalled for so long, a massive inflatable airbag had already been set up below.
So when Jessica fell, she only ended up with a broken leg.
After that day, Ryan came looking for Chloe a few more times, but she never saw him.
Ethan, worried that she was in a bad mood, took her out for a few days in a row to help her relax and clear her head.
One day, Chloe and Ethan were planning to go out for dinner
Sitting in the car, she felt a strange, inexplicable sense of unease, and her whole body felt tense and uncomfortable.
Ethan noticed she was off and asked with a concerned frown, “What’s wrong? If you’re not feeling well, we don’t have to go.”
