He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 11

As for Talia's claims, Yardley thoroughly checked his phone. There were absolutely no unread messages. Caleb had been spitting up milk and clinging to him, so he had been busy patting the baby's back just as the nanny had instructed, leaving his phone completely out of reach.

No one knew his passcode, so it was impossible for anyone to tamper with his phone. Talia had to be deliberately trying to drive a wedge between them. Scarlett had collapsed and been admitted to the hospital... No wonder she hadn't called him. Yardley stood frozen for a long time before finally dialing Zara's number, but the nanny was too scared to answer.

Back in the living room, Talia found Scarlett staring intently at her phone screen, her eyes burning with hatred.

Talia hurried over. "What are you looking at?"

Displayed on the screen was a photo collage posted by an account named 'Gentle Moonlight.' The caption read: 'A meticulously prepared christening party from his uncle. PS: His uncle honestly spoils Caleb even more than his dad does.'

Talia snatched the phone and swiped through the pictures one by one. The christening party was lavishly decorated. Although the man holding the baby in one of the photos didn't show his face, he was instantly recognizable as Yardley.

Talia exploded with anger all over again. "So he throws this extravagant christening party for someone else's son, but his own daughter gets absolutely nothing?"

Scarlett's gaze was icy. "Exactly."

Talia was so furious she almost smashed the phone. She shot to her feet. "This is completely insane! What kind of spell did Sylvia cast on him? I have to look into this for you!"

Talia slammed her hand against the coffee table. "That Sylvia is a total scheming bitch! You go into labor, and she miraculously falls and gives birth early? She's ruthless enough to do anything to keep Yardley around! Scarlett, women like that are toxic. You need to be careful!"

A mocking smile played on Scarlett's lips. "The one who needs to be careful... is her."

Having grown up navigating the harsh realities of the world alongside her mother, Scarlett had seen all kinds of manipulative women. Sylvia dared to be so arrogant simply because she relied on Yardley's favoritism and the convenient excuse of them being family. What if she ripped off that hypocritical mask? She wondered who would be the first to crumble from the humiliation—Yardley or Sylvia.

Remembering Sylvia's provocative phone call, remembering how the other woman had enjoyed Yardley's meticulous care throughout her entire pregnancy, and remembering how his nephew was treated like royalty while her own daughter was cast aside like dirt—the cold smile in Scarlett's eyes instantly morphed into a suffocating wave of fury.
