Yardley was about to scold her. "Talia, you..."
Before he could finish, his gaze shifted and landed on Scarlett walking toward them. He noticed the medical tape on the back of her hand. His lips parted slightly as if he wanted to say something.
However, before he could utter a word, Sylvia burst into tears. "Yardley, I think a piece of glass cut my leg! It hurts so much!"
Sylvia pulled up her dress, revealing a tiny shard of glass the size of a pea lodged in her delicate calf. Blood was slowly seeping out.
Yardley's gaze tightened. He instantly ripped his eyes away from Scarlett and dropped to one knee to inspect the injury without a second thought. "The cut looks deep. We need a doctor to remove this right away, and you'll need a tetanus shot."
He took hold of Sylvia's wheelchair and strode toward the emergency room without hesitation. The two nannies holding the baby rushed to follow him.
Scarlett gave a silent, bitter smile. A look of total mockery covered her face. She was completely numb, dead to the pain.
Trembling with rage, Talia couldn't stop herself from screaming after him. "Yardley, stop right there! Couldn't you see that Scarlett—"
Before she could finish, Scarlett collapsed like a falling mountain.
"Scarlett! Scarlett! Doctor! Hurry! She passed out again!"
Panicking, Talia frantically grabbed hold of Scarlett, on the verge of breaking down in tears.
Yardley had just reached the corner. Hearing the cries, his steps faltered, and he instinctively looked back. When he saw doctors and nurses sprinting in that direction, and Scarlett slumped weakly in Talia's arms, he immediately knew something was horribly wrong.
"You guys get Sylvia's cut treated. I'll be right back."
Talia sighed. "Man, women really lose all sense of vanity once they become mothers. We used to go to the spa, and you were too shy to even change in front of me. Now look at you, completely bare right here, and you don't even flinch."
Scarlett gave a bitter smile. "What else can I do? Anything for my baby. It's just a shame about all this extra milk. Dawn is too little to drink this much. I'll put it in storage bags later, and Zara can take it home to freeze."
Just as she spoke, a commanding male voice rang out from the doorway. "No need to take it home. Give it to me. Sylvia's baby happens to be out of milk, and your baby can't finish it all anyway."
Scarlett's chest tightened violently.
Talia jumped up, absolutely furious. "Yardley, you sick bastard! You don't show your face all night while Scarlett is unconscious, and now you scheme to steal her milk for that bitch?! Are you even human?!"
Yardley pulled the curtain aside and stepped in. Dressed in black casual wear, his brow was sharp and stern. Tall and imposing, he exuded the overwhelming presence of an elite who was used to giving orders.
