Yardley practically sprinted up to Sylvia.
Seeing her red nose, tear-filled eyes, and violently shivering body, he reflexively stripped off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
Sylvia immediately leaned into him, trying to bury herself in his arms. Yardley instinctively tried to step back, but she clung to him tightly.
She was shaking uncontrollably, like a freezing stray kitten.
Yardley's heart softened, and he ultimately didn't push her away.
"Yardley..."
She pressed her face into his chest, her voice muffled. "Thank you for coming to be with me. You're the only one who treats me well."
Yardley sighed. "What happened? Does Julian... really doubt us too?"
Sylvia's face was streaked with tears.
"Yes. He saw that long exposé online and asked if I lied to him back then. He thinks the person I really loved wasn't him, but you."
"He demanded the truth and said that if our marriage started with a lie, there's no point in staying together, even if it is just a business arrangement..."
Hearing her pitiful, choked sobs, Yardley felt a sharp pang of sympathy.
"I'll talk to Julian myself. I'll explain that it's not what he thinks."
Tears rolled down Sylvia's cheeks.
"Yardley, what if he wants a divorce? I... I just had Caleb. I don't want my baby growing up in a broken home."
"Why does the whole world have to misunderstand our relationship? We're just close like a brother and sister. Why did Scarlett have to drag my name through the mud?"
Sylvia sounded utterly hopeless, sobbing until she couldn't catch her breath. She swayed unsteadily, looking as though she might collapse at any second.
Yardley had no choice but to hold her up, supporting her weight with his own body. He tried his best to console her.
"If you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear. Stop crying, I'm here. Come on, let's get you home. I'll take you back to the Croft family myself. Don't overthink this. Let me handle it."
