He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 56

Scarlett glanced at it and took it.

Since he was giving her a blank check, she had no reason to refuse. From now on, she was done being the idiot who spent her own hard-earned money trying to please him.

He leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead, patting her shoulder reassuringly.

"Get some sleep. I'll be back soon."

He turned and left, his footsteps hurried and chaotic, fading down the hall.

The bedroom fell into a terrifying silence.

Scarlett walked into the bathroom, frantically scrubbing at her neck with her fingernails until she left red, angry marks, desperate to erase the evidence of his touch.

She turned on the shower, letting the water blast over her skin. The deep-seated revulsion she felt made her stomach churn violently.

Staying in this house for even one more second felt suffocating.

She threw the torn shirt into the trash, pulled a set of old clothes from the closet that she hadn't packed away, and put them on.

She rushed downstairs, eager to leave.

Leah hurried out of her room when she heard the noise. Seeing Scarlett, her eyes filled with distress.

"Madam, please wait. Mr. Flynn will surely be back soon."

Scarlett shook her head decisively.

"No. I don't want to stay in this house a minute longer."

She quickly walked out the front doors of Orchard Villa. Leah stood in the doorway, watching her retreating figure with a heavy heart, letting out a soft, sad sigh.

Leah couldn't help but wonder what was happening. Mr. Flynn and his wife used to be so happy. What went wrong?

Scarlett planned to go back and get her car.

She stood by the road for a long time before finally hailing a cab.

Just as she got in and was about to give the driver her destination, Sylvia sent a provocative text.

[I just acted a little pitiful, and your precious husband dropped everything to run to me.]

Scarlett immediately went to screenshot it, but Sylvia was smart this time. She recalled the message the second it was delivered.

Sylvia quickly fired off a few more texts.

[I heard you're divorcing him? Good for you. I hope you hurry up and get it done.]
