He Loved My Sister. I’m Better Off Without Him novel Chapter 13

Chapter 130

E

The sky was already dark when my plane landed in Edinburgh.

A black sedan sent by the Lloyd Family had waited for me at the airport. As soon as I got in, the driver silently took my suitcase and drove straight toward a mansion perched halfway up the mountain. It was the Lloyd Family’s mansion.

When we arrived, I pushed open the heavy front door and stepped inside with my suitcase. The living room was dimly lit by a single floor lamp. It casted long shadows across the room.N

Mark Lloyd sat on the sofa. A cigarette was dangling between his fingers even though it wasn’t lit. When his eyes met mine, they were cold and sharp. He was studying me like I was a puzzle he had to solve.

His gaze swept over me, pausing on the scrapes visible beneath my sleeves and the dusty hem of my skirt./

His voice was calm, almost detached, when he asked, Miss Wyatt, shouldn’t you be in London right now, attending the socalled wedding of the century? How did you end up here as my wife? And haven’t you heard the rumors about me? Yet, you dare to come here willingly?

I tightened my grip on the doorframe to steady myself. My entire body ached, but I kept my back straight and my head held high.

Mr. Lloyd, you might want to use this marriage as leverage against the Wyatt Family. But I can offer you much more than just my name as their daughter. As for the rumors, they’re nothing but gossip from outsiders. They don’t matter to me.”

I lifted my eyes, meeting his eyes without flinching.

Besides, I believe you and I are alike. We’re the kind of people who always repay every debt.

Once I finished what I said, Mark’s brow lifted slightly. He rolled the cigarette between his fingers. It seemed that he was intrigued.

Interesting. Go on. I’d like to hear more.

I walked forward and sat on the sofa across from him. Exhaustion weighed on me, my wounds aching and my eyelids heavy from two sleepless nights. Still, I forced myself to sit tall and steady my voice.

The Lloyd Family has been competing with the Wyatt and Herbert families for that major project for a long time. You’re decisive, Mr. Lloyd, but business is about weighing risks and rewards.

Now that the Wyatt and Herbert families are joining forces through marriage, your position will become even more challenging.

Mark’s expression didn’t change. He simply gestured for me to continue. Taking a breath, I leaned forward slightly.

I’ve already blocked the critical technologies that the Wyatt and Herbert families rely on. I also know exactly where the Wyatt Family’s supply chain is weakest. With my help, you can win that project without lifting a finger.

Mark’s lips curved into a faint smile. His gaze deepened, like a man watching a game he was starting to enjoy. He tapped the armrest lightly.

And what do you want in return?

I met his eyes, letting him see the determination in mine.

The Wyatt Family, I said clearly.

When they fall, I will take over. That position should be mine.>

For a moment, Mark just stared at me, silent. To my surprise, he then laughed. It was a low, genuine laugh filled with approval. You’re far more interesting than I expected,” he said.

Relief washed through me, though I didn’t let it show. I was about to bring up the terms of our marriage arrangement when he suddenly spoke again,

I’ll have my assistant handle the details of the marriage.”\
