By the time they arrived at the restaurant, it was right in the middle of the dinner rush.
Luckily, Wynette had reserved a table for three ahead of time.
Originally, Wynette wanted to use good food to cheer Joanne up after everything she'd been through.
Halfway through the meal, though, they ran into the last person they wanted to see.
Noah spotted Wynette from a distance almost immediately.
He had come out today mainly to discuss business. After greeting the partner beside him, Noah headed straight toward Wynette's table.
The moment Wynette saw the man standing in front of her, the meat in her mouth instantly lost all flavor.
If she'd known grabbing dinner tonight would mean running into Noah, she definitely would've gone to bed hungry.
The second she faced him, her expression turned cold.
Noah noticed it too. The smile disappeared from her face the instant she saw him, replaced by icy indifference.
A dull ache twisted through his chest as he parted his lips. "Wynette... you're here for dinner?"
The past few days had been chaotic. Eve's incident and Payton's mess had both affected the company, leaving Noah and Justin running nonstop, trying to put out fires.
He'd practically worked himself to death, yet nothing had been resolved.
It felt like someone had been deliberately sabotaging him.
The first person Noah thought of was Wynette.
But the thought was quickly dismissed.
Wynette couldn't possibly pull that off. At least, that was what he believed.
He hadn't seen her in days, and now that he finally did, Noah realized just how much he'd missed her.
I must've been blind before. How did I fail to see how good Wynette was?
At this moment, regret and self-blame completely filled Noah's heart.
Wynette couldn't even be bothered to spare him a glance.
She simply kept a cold expression and continued eating in silence.
After only two bites, though, she lost her appetite completely.
Because of the way Noah kept staring at her.
Before Wynette could even speak, Joanne had already picked up the plate in front of her and hurled it straight at Noah. "Trash like you should quit trying to force your way into the spotlight. Just looking at you makes me sick."
Food splattered across Noah's clothes.
But he acted like he didn't even notice, his gaze still fixed on Wynette.
Joanne grabbed the bowl in front of her, clearly ready to throw it next.
Why is this man so impossible to shake off?
Alice quickly stopped Joanne and signaled for her not to act impulsively.
Only then did Joanne reluctantly give up.
Wynette frowned and looked at Noah coldly, but in the end, she still didn't say anything.
"Wynette..." Noah's heart ached painfully.
He wanted to tell her he knew he was wrong. That he hoped she'd give him another chance to make things right.
For days now, Wynette had been constantly on his mind. He was finally willing to admit that she was different from everyone else to him.
Meeting Noah's regretful gaze, Wynette only found it laughable. "Mr. Shepherd, I already turned down the shares your grandfather wanted to give me, so you don't need to put on this pathetic little act in front of me, pretending you regret things and want my forgiveness.
"I don't get back together with exes, and I definitely don't lower myself to picking through trash. Instead of wasting your breath begging me for forgiveness, you should spend that energy figuring out how to get back in Mr. Adam's good graces."
She wasn't stupid. Of course, she knew Noah's apology came with ulterior motives.
Eve and Payton already knew Adam planned to give her shares, so there was no way Noah didn't know too.
Now, he was standing in front of her pretending to regret everything. It was obviously all because of those shares Adam held.
Not long after she rejected Adam that day, Wynette received news about what happened afterward.
