Wynette quickly took a shower and changed into a sporty outfit suitable for hiking.
She tied her hair into a messy bun and checked the time.
By the time she went downstairs, Shirley had already arrived.
She was carrying a thermal food container in her hands.
Shirley said to Wynette, "Eat breakfast first. I made it myself."
Wynette walked into the kitchen and grabbed two sets of utensils.
Shirley had already opened the container. Inside were creamy oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and a few sausages.
The aroma instantly filled the air.
Wynette handed one set of utensils to Shirley. "Eat with me."
Shirley had rushed over earlier and genuinely hadn't had time to eat breakfast yet.
She accepted the utensils and sat across from Wynette.
As she ate, Wynette smiled in satisfaction. "This is delicious. Your cooking is seriously amazing."
Wynette had eaten Shirley's cooking before, and it was genuinely incredible.
Thinking about it, Wynette couldn't help giving her a thumbs-up in praise.
Shirley smiled faintly. She normally didn't have many hobbies and rarely liked going out. Most of the time, she preferred staying home, reading books, and experimenting with recipes.
When she renovated her new place, every room had been decorated casually except the kitchen, which she'd filled with all kinds of cooking equipment.
After being praised repeatedly by Wynette, Shirley actually started feeling embarrassed.
Once breakfast was over, Wynette drove Shirley toward Mount Lemeon.
Along the way, Shirley updated her on the situation. "We basically know nothing about Ammius-Crocus. How are we supposed to find him?"
The problem was that there was barely any information available on Ammius-Crocus. All they knew was that he was male and local. Other than that, they knew absolutely nothing.
Trying to find him would basically be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Mount Lemeon wasn't exactly low in elevation, and Sacred Light Monastery sat even higher up the mountain. Although there were sightseeing shuttle buses available, they only went halfway up the mountain.
To show sincerity, visitors still had to hike the rest of the way on foot from there.
Even private vehicles could only park at the halfway point.
If they started hiking from the base of the mountain, the full climb would take roughly three hours. Even starting halfway up still required more than two hours of hiking.
Wynette gave Shirley a reassuring look. "It doesn't matter whether we find him or not. Just treat this as a chance to hike and relax. You spend all day either stuck at home or sitting at the office. Perfect opportunity to exercise."
Shirley had to admit, Wynette made a pretty good point.
It really had been a long time since she'd done any outdoor activities.
"So... should we have the driver take us halfway up?" Shirley asked.
Hearing that, Wynette thought for a moment. "We cleared today's schedule anyway, and we've both got plenty of time. So... how about we try hiking all the way up from the bottom?"
It had also been a long time since Wynette had gone hiking outdoors.
Back in school, she and Joanne used to go on nighttime hikes all the time.
Joanne especially loved extreme outdoor sports.
But after graduation and throwing themselves into work, the two of them had drastically cut back.
The second Shirley heard they were hiking the entire way up, she instinctively felt nervous.
This would be her first time trying something like this.
Honestly, she wasn't sure she'd even make it to the top.
Still, part of Shirley genuinely wanted to give it a shot.
She liked challenging herself.
In the end, Shirley gritted her teeth and answered, "Okay."
She refused to believe she and Wynette couldn't handle a mere Mount Lemeon.
Seeing Shirley's competitive spirit instantly ignite, Wynette couldn't help laughing.
