Chapter 34 Mr Shepherd, I Wasn’t Joking
At Wynette’s words, Noah frowned. He clearly wasn’t pleased.
He looked at her and said, “You know that’s not what I meant. You don’t have to speak so harshly.”
Honestly, the way Wynette treated him now made him uncomfortable.
She hadn’t been like this before.
Wynette simply looked away, like she didn’t care.
Noah grew more irritated when she ignored him. “Say something. Don’t just sit there.”
In the past, she would have argued back right away.
But today, she was quiet.
Too quiet. It felt strange to him.
Wynette held back the urge to roll her eyes and replied annoyedly, “What do you expect a patient to say?”
She had no interest in dealing with Noah’s sudden mood swings.
At this point, all they ever did was argue. There was nothing else left to say.
Seeing her pale face, Noah felt a wave of regret.
What’s
wrong with me?
On the way to the hospital, he had told himself not to lose his temper. She was sick. He should be patient.
But the moment he saw her stubborn attitude, he almost forgot everything he had promised himself.
He took a breath and forced down his anger. “Fine. Do whatever you want.”
There was a hint of helplessness in his voice, as if he were the one putting up with her antics.
Wynette didn’t like how that sounded, but she didn’t bother to argue.
She glanced at him. “Anything else?”
Noah heard the dismissal in her tone. His face darkened, and he pressed his lips together, refusing to
answer.
The apple in his hand was peeled unevenly, rough, and messy.
He cut it into pieces and said, “I’ll stay and take care of you.”
Then he held a piece up to her lips.
Wynette was stunned. Noah wanted to stay and take care of her?

Before, no matter how many times she called him, he avoided her. And now he suddenly wanted to stay?
Before she could refuse, Noah continued, “Also, I’m not pulling my investment. The game will launch as planned. Don’t worry. I’ve already spoken to Lorelei. She won’t interfere anymore.”
He was clear. The argument from earlier that day was over.
He would keep investing. There was no reason for him to give up profit over something small.
At the same time, he was telling Wynette not to make a big deal out of it. Things would go on as usual.
But to Wynette, it sounded like a joke.
She looked at him coldly. “Mr. Shepherd, I wasn’t joking before. I don’t need your investment.”
He always did this.
Always making decisions on his own.
Letting Lorelei join. Letting her interfere. And now, he sounded like he was doing her a favor by continuing to invest.
Did he even know what respect meant?
Holding back her anger, Wynette said solemnly, “I never used the game to threaten you.
“Noah, you know me. If I told everyone that I wouldn’t launch the game, I meant it. I’ve given it up.”
Why did he come here and say all this now? Was it fun?
“I’ve already apologized. There’s no need for you to keep using something important to threaten me. That game is your hard work, and everyone else’s too. You wouldn’t just give it up. I know that.”

She shot back coldly, “Noah, you think I’m threatening you, but I’m not. I’ve already made my decision. I mean every word. I don’t want this game anymore.
“And you don’t need to act generous and say you’ll invest. You should’ve known, after using it against me again and again, sooner or later, I’d get tired of it.”
Wynette took a deep breath. “No matter what you say, I’m not giving in. You should leave. I don’t want to see
you.”
She didn’t even look at him again.
Wynette pulled the blanket around herself and lay down on the hospital bed. Then she turned over, her back facing Noah.
The message was clear; she wanted him gone.
Noah stared at her back, his expression dark. The anger he had been holding in burst out like a volcano.
He shot to his feet and pointed at her. “Hey, don’t push it. I’ve already gone this far to make things right, and you’re still acting like this? How far are you going to take it?”
Wynette let out a quiet, mocking scoff.
That’s all it takes for him to lose it?
She thought about all the times Noah had treated her coldly before. Compared to that, ignoring him now was already more than polite.
And yet, he still wasn’t happy. He was even throwing a fit in front of her.
She really had spoiled him, letting him get away with so much. Did he really think he was that important?
Wynette tightened the blanket around herself. As Noah kept ranting and blaming her, she simply closed her eyes and ignored him.
She let him put on his one–man show, all by himself.
