He Loves Me Right, Finally novel Chapter 68

Chapter 68 Are You Questioning Me?

Because of that question, Wynette didn’t sleep all night.

She spent the entire night trying to figure out why the Shepherds hadn’t made a move.

In the end, it only strengthened her determination to go back to the company.

Early the next morning, Wynette got ready and went to the office with Kaylee after breakfast.

On the way, she received a call from Joanne.

“I’ve got a joke for you. Wanna hear it?” Joanne sounded unusually cheerful.

Wynette played along. “Go ahead.”

Joanne immediately told Wynette everything she had heard about Noah and Lorelei.

After the file incident was exposed, Noah and Lorelei had a major argument–reportedly a very serious

one.

Last night, Noah went to see Lorelei again, apparently to confront her about something, and they ended up fighting.

Lorelei was shoved into the road and was hit by a passing car.

Too bad it was only minor injuries–nothing serious.

Now, everyone outside was speculating about what could have caused such a huge fallout between them.

After hearing Joanne out, Wynette told her about how the Shepherds had shown up full of themselves to formally propose.

Joanne almost laughed herself sick. “What? The Shepherds actually had the nerve to do that?! This is ridiculous! Even though I wasn’t there, I ca

already picture their ugly expressions!

“Wait, so is Noah lashing out at Lorelei because he tried to get back together with you and got rejected, so he took it out on her instead?

Wynette denied it. “I don’t think I have that kind of pull. But with what Lorelei did to set him up, he’s definitely not going to just let it go.”

That was probably the reason.

She didn’t say much more. When she noticed Kaylee looking at her, she quickly wrapped up the call.

Then she said, “The Shepherds did show up last night. I didn’t entertain them–I kicked them out.

She never intended to hide that from Kaylee.

Kaylee hesitated. “The Shepherds came… to propose marriage?”

Given everything that had happened, that move from the Shepherds felt extremely strange.

Even Kaylee found it suspicious.

Wynette just nodded without saying more.

Kaylee fell into thought. Her silence drew Wynette’s attention.

Wynette cleared her throat, “You don’t need to deal with them from now on.”

Finished

Whether Kaylee had been persuaded yesterday, Wynette didn’t want Kaylee getting involved with them

anymore.

Kaylee looked at her a few times, like she wanted to say something but stopped herself.

“Mom.” Wynette frowned. “You’re not still thinking about keeping ties with the Shepherds, are you?”

It wasn’t an unreasonable suspicion. Kaylee’s expression carried hesitation and conflict.

Kaylee shook her head quickly. “N–no, I’m not thinking that. I know you don’t like it.”

After saying that, she shifted her gaze away.

It was obvious that she didn’t want to continue the topic.

Wynette took it as her mother having come to terms with it and didn’t press further.

Since they had already informed the company in advance, Liam was already waiting with an assistant when Wynette and Kaylee arrived.

Wynette had reviewed Liam’s background beforehand.

He was 39, wore gold–rimmed glasses, and carried himself with a polite, refined demeanor.

When he saw Wynette and Kaylee, he greeted them with a polite smile.

So there was no way it would be as boring” as you implied.

Those contracts were similar to the

revious cooperation between the Jewells and the Shepherds.

But those weren’t even direct agreements with Shepherd Group.

Ever since Wynette had said she was cutting ties with the Shepherds, there had been no intention of continuing cooperation with them.

Yet even contracts with other companies still carried Shepherd Group’s name. Wynette looked at Kaylee. “Mom, were the contracts with other companies like this before, too?”

Kaylee didn’t respond.

No wonder the Jewell Group had been halfdead for those past three years.

Every completed project meant 35% of the profit going to Shepherd Group. After that, annual profits were also further split among

them.

All the major gains went to the Shepherds. Jewell Group was left with almost nothing.

Her mother really had been too naive to accept terms like that.

Liam explained from the side, “Ms. Jewell, these collaborations were only secured because of Shepherd Group’s influence.”

“So you’re saying all these clients chose Jewell Group only because of Shepherd Group’s reputation, and

without them, no one would choose Jewell Group?” Wynette asked back.

Finished

She had clearly seen that several of those brand partners had maintained long–term cooperation with Jewell Group before.

So how had it suddenly become Shepherd Group’s credit?

At her questioning, Liam’s polite smile finally disappeared.

He looked at her coldly. “Ms. Jewell, are you questioning me?”
