He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 19

Inside, the room looked like a war zone.

Anything not bolted down had been hurled across the floor by Sebastian.

The nurses were cowering in the corner, visibly terrified of triggering another explosive outburst.

The moment Helena walked in, the tension in the room instantly broke. The nurses looked at her like she was their savior.

Sebastian scowled from the bed, his tone still dripping with arrogant authority. "Come here."

Helena glanced at the wreckage and paused.

They couldn't have a rational conversation in this mess.

"I said, come here," he barked again.

Her constant defiance lately was pushing his temper to a boiling point.

Last night, he had gone to her apartment and been completely stonewalled.

Furious, he had left to buy Janetta her soup. Janetta had insisted on tagging along, so he suppressed his irritation and picked her up.

But they had gotten into a heated argument in the car.

Janetta was dropping heavy hints about wanting an official status, masking her demands with tears and complaints.

Already in a foul mood, he hadn't bothered to coax her.

She immediately started sobbing.

For the first time, he felt genuinely suffocated by it and snapped at her.

Janetta then threatened to jump out of the moving car.

Knowing she was pregnant, he panicked and reached over to stop her.

In the chaos, he missed the oncoming truck.

When he finally noticed, instinct took over—he shielded her and took the brunt of the impact.

So, truthfully, he was furious with Janetta, though he hadn't crossed the line into screaming at her. He just froze her out.

And somehow, all that pent-up aggression had transferred directly onto Helena.

Because Helena never treated him like this.

No matter how foul his mood, she always approached him with endless patience and gentle words.

Over the years, he had come to view her submission as an absolute given.

This icy version of his wife felt entirely alien.

It almost sounded like he cared.

But she knew better now. There was no real affection behind those words.

"Okay," she agreed, dropping the items.

She needed to break these pathetic little habits.

"Come here," he commanded again, his tone finally softening slightly.

She walked over to the bed. Watching her obey, the dark cloud over his head finally began to dissipate.

She was still his Helena. She hadn't slipped out of his grasp.

"Take your pills," she said, placing the cup of water and the medication on his tray table.

He scowled, refusing instantly. "No."

This time, Helena just looked at him in total silence.

The knot between his eyebrows instantly returned.

Normally, when he refused, she would sit on the edge of the bed and coax him endlessly, her voice soft and pleading.

That submissive, desperate display always stroked his massive ego.
