Disappointment toward him, and toward this hollow seven-year marriage.
He knew exactly how much she cared about his scandals with Janetta, yet he still blamed her.
So Janetta really was special to him, wasn't she?
Helena let out a bitter, self-deprecating laugh.
Suddenly, she realized her own pregnancy probably didn't matter to him at all anymore.
She struggled on the floor for a long time before finally pulling herself up.
Right on cue, a call came in from Grace Dale.
Helena answered.
"Come back tonight," Grace ordered.
"Yes," Helena replied, not daring to hesitate.
Grace hung up immediately.
Helena stared at the disconnected screen, a headache beginning to throb in her temples.
Grace loathed her. That, combined with Helena's failure to produce an heir for the family in seven years, made her mother-in-law's disgust crystal clear.
If it weren't for her deep love for him, she never would have survived this long.
But now, he had thoroughly shattered all her hopes. She refused to shoulder this burden alone anymore.
She figured if Grace wanted her to visit, then she would make Sebastian lay everything out in the open right in front of his mother.
It was a thought rooted in surrender.
After years of agonizing hesitation, she had never felt this resolute.
So once she gathered her composure, she called him.
The line connected, but a gentle female voice answered instead. "Hello? Seb is resting right now. Could you call back a little later?"
Helena felt she had nothing left to lose, so her tone turned sharp. "Who is this? Why are you answering my husband's phone?"
She already knew. Janetta's voice was far too distinct.
Sure enough, a second later, Janetta introduced herself and began to apologize.
