He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 68

It was as if the baby was destined to survive.

Helena had been in excruciating pain, yet she initially refused anesthesia, desperate to stay awake for her child. It wasn't until her body gave out that the doctors forced the sedative to let her rest.

Hearing their hushed whispers, Sebastian's mind painted a visceral picture of the chaotic, blood-soaked operating room.

Yet, the imagery failed to evoke any genuine empathy. The irritation simmering in his eyes remained. Ultimately, he convinced himself that this was just another one of Helena's dramatic ploys. That cynical thought instantly crushed the fleeting pang of guilt he had felt upon seeing her pale face.

"Mr. Hayes..." The nurses finally noticed his looming presence, jumping in fright and immediately shutting their mouths.

The room emptied out, leaving only Sebastian and Helena in the suffocating silence.

Helena sensed his presence the moment he stepped inside. She slowly opened her eyes, immediately locking onto him with a gaze full of guarded hostility. But in her current state, completely devoid of strength, she could do nothing but lie there and watch him.

For a long moment, the silence was agonizing. The only sound was the heavy, deliberate thud of his dress shoes against the floor as he approached the bed.

"Since the baby survived, you will give birth to it. Once we do a DNA test, we'll know exactly who the father is," Sebastian stated, his voice devoid of any warmth. "If it's mine, I won't allow a child of the Hayes family to be cast out. You have absolutely no right to make decisions regarding my bloodline."

Helena's pale face drained of whatever little color was left. She hadn't expected her baby to be so resilient. But she also hadn't expected Sebastian to deliver such a tyrannical decree. It wasn't a discussion; it was an absolute command.

Her dry lips parted slightly, but before she could utter a single syllable, his ruthless voice cut through the air again.

"Of course, if this child turns out not to be mine... I'll have it buried right alongside you," he enunciated every word, ensuring she understood the lethal promise.

Helena didn't reply. Her heart pounded furiously against her ribs, her whole body wired with tension.
