Sometimes, Solomon truly marveled at Sebastian's sheer willpower.
She had ruthlessly humiliated him, yet he just brushed it off like nothing had happened.
He knew for a fact he could never tolerate that kind of treatment.
"She can't keep going on like this," he pressed on.
"Stop!" his friend cut him off immediately. "First, she has her own doctor, and I have no right to interfere. Second, you know her current mental state better than anyone, so why are you deliberately pushing her buttons? Third, if you actually want to help her, go talk to her doctor or her therapist, understand?"
Simply put, there was nothing he could do.
He stood perfectly still, absorbing every word, his eyes cast downward in silent reflection.
"So, this is my fault?" he asked quietly.
"If I were her, I would be entirely sick of you by now," his friend replied bluntly.
It's always easier to see the whole picture when you aren't standing in the frame.
And Solomon saw the situation with perfect clarity.
He went quiet for a moment. "Is there really no other way?"
"You're calling me, a perpetually single guy, for relationship advice at 3 AM?" he laughed dryly at the absurdity.
Without waiting for a response, he hung up.
Sebastian remained standing in the dark kitchen, carefully burying the turbulence in his chest.
A few moments later, his phone buzzed with a file from his friend.
It was a detailed report on her current treatment progress.
He opened it and read through it.
Her progress was abysmal, completely stalled out.
She was stuck in a vicious cycle of relapses, to the point where even her doctors were running out of options.
She was just barely keeping her head above water.
And he knew exactly why—he was the anchor dragging her down.
He remembered the way she had completely shattered just moments ago.
He lowered his gaze, the heavy silence settling over him once again.
He walked over and stood quietly outside her bedroom door.
He couldn't hear a single sound from inside.
The entire apartment was suffocatingly still.
He had no idea how long he stood there, but he didn't move until the sky outside began to turn a pale gray.
Only then did he return to his own room to rest.
