Jarrod was still asleep. His impossibly long lashes cast shadows over his cheeks, and his usually razor-sharp features were softened by a rare, lazy calm. His warm breath brushed rhythmically over her hair, and his arm was looped possessively around her waist.

Stella froze, completely paralyzed. Her mind scrambled to piece the fragments together. She had definitely fallen asleep on the chaise lounge. How on earth did she end up in the bed?

Had Jarrod carried her? But wasn't his arm injured?

While she was spiraling, the man beside her opened his dark eyes. Catching her panicked expression, a faint glint of amusement rippled through his gaze. "You're awake?"

His morning voice was thick and gravelly, sending an uncomfortable shiver straight down her spine.

She scrambled backward, putting as much distance between them as possible. "How did I end up in bed?"

Jarrod stared at her with unreadable eyes. "No idea. Maybe the lounge got too uncomfortable, and you crawled in here yourself."

"Is that right?" She eyed him with heavy suspicion.

He tapped his bandages, his tone raspy. "With my arm like this, it's not exactly easy to carry you."

It sounded entirely fabricated, yet he maintained a perfectly straight face.

Could she really have subconsciously wandered over because the couch was too cramped?

Well, it was morning, and nothing had actually happened. Deciding not to dwell on it, Stella threw off the covers and slid out of bed. "I'm going to wash up. Call the front desk and have them send up your dry cleaning."

The hotel offered laundry services. Since Jarrod hadn't packed anything, he'd requested a rush order last night.

Not giving him a chance to respond, she bolted into the bathroom.

Spotting the bright crimson spreading across her ears, a triumphant smirk touched Jarrod's lips.

Given how light she was, scooping her up with one good arm had been effortless.

Fortunately, she had been out cold. She had slept through the entire transition and was gullible enough to buy his sleepwalking excuse.
