Jarrod dismissed them with a chillingly blank look. The temperature in the room plummeted further. "If I hadn't come, how would I have ever witnessed Mr. Quinn treating his biological daughter this way behind closed doors?"

The words "biological daughter" hung heavily in the air. Not just Sylvia and Seraphina, but even George looked thoroughly humiliated.

"Jarrod, I was just trying to scare her a bit. I had no intention of actually hurting her," George lied, struggling to maintain a shred of dignity.
