Jarrod had changed into a fresh, immaculate suit. His phone was clutched in his left hand, and his right arm remained secured in a rigid brace. His handsome face was a mask of pure ice. He walked straight past her, treating her like she didn't even exist, and headed straight out the front door.

Stella knew Jarrod was leaving for the office. To dodge the suffocating awkwardness of walking out alongside him, she decided to hang back and let him leave first.

She lingered in the foyer for a few extra minutes.

Roughly ten minutes later, figuring Jarrod's convoy was long gone, Stella thanked Mrs. Whitby, said her goodbyes, and stepped outside.

She froze.

Jarrod's luxury sedan was still parked directly in front of the steps.

Jarrod was sitting in the back seat, staring straight ahead, while his driver stood at attention by the rear door.

Stella was thoroughly confused. Why was he still here?

"Mrs. Fuller, right this way, please."

The moment the driver spotted her, he pulled the heavy door open and offered a highly respectful bow.

Stella blinked. *Excuse me?*

"Mr. Fuller mentioned that you're heading to The Quinn Group today. He's been waiting to take you," the driver clarified.

Stella was indeed heading to The Quinn Group to meet with finance, and Jarrod knew that.

So, Jarrod had purposely stalled his morning just to give her a ride?

Suddenly, a memory flashed in Stella's mind. The day she had formally taken over SD Apparel, Jarrod had intentionally swung by The Sterling Residences just to escort her. He even marched right into the boardroom to aggressively establish his presence in front of the shareholders.

Was he doing this again? Did he think George was going to retaliate for last night's humiliation, and he wanted to play bodyguard?

A complicated, messy knot formed in Stella's chest.

This was exactly what Jarrod always did. He casually dropped these intensely protective gestures that made her feel deeply anchored, only to turn around and abandon her the absolute second someone else demanded his attention.

The worst part was, she had zero right to be angry, because technically, he had never done anything 'wrong.'
