Chapter 2
My heart sank. Someone had definitely been in our house–so why was Dorian lying to me?
But if she’d been in our house, how had she managed to bypass the smart lock?
I didn’t sleep a wink that night. The next day, I returned to the property management office.
This time, it wasn’t Fiona Sharp who helped me, but a different security guard with glasses.
“Has anyone visited my apartment recently?”
My place was a large flat with one unit per floor, so checking security footage would be straightforward.
The guard helped me review nearly two weeks of surveillance footage from my floor.
Not a single person had appeared. How bizarre.
Could there be a glitch in the router management system?
I spent the entire workday distracted and listless. When I got home, I slumped onto the couch feeling dejected.
Dorian approached me with his hands behind his back, grinning playfully.
“What’s wrong, honey? Why do you look so down?”
I frowned, about to push away his affectionate gesture, when he suddenly presented me with a phone.
“Ta–da! I was planning to wait until your birthday, but you’ve seemed so gloomy lately that I decided to give it to you early!”
I stared in disbelief at the brand–new phone in front of me.
This was the first time I’d owned a new phone since marrying Dorian.
All my previous phones had been his hand–me–downs. When he upgraded, I’d get his old device.
Even though we weren’t strapped for cash, he remained incredibly frugal when it came to electronics.
I was over the moon, barely able to form words.
“This is really for me?”
Dorian nodded enthusiastically.
“Of course! My wife has been working so hard lately–don’t you deserve a new phone as a reward?”
He planted a loud kiss on my cheek.
My heart soared with joy.
God, I felt terrible! Here my husband was being so thoughtful, and I’d been suspecting him of cheating.
As for the router management issue, maybe some upstairs or downstairs neighbor had been using our WiFi!

Chapter 2
Or perhaps there was just some glitch in the router app.
I tore off the phone’s plastic seal and powered it on.
I wanted to transfer everything from my old phone to the new one.
But when I went to log into my account on the new device, I discovered that someone had already logged in before me!
Yet I had personally removed the plastic seal from the outer packaging–how could this phone have been used before?
Had Dorian been scammed into buying me a used phone to save a few bucks?
I stood up, ready to ask Dorian what was going on.
But then I reconsidered. With all the strange things happening around the house lately, should I really confront him right now?
I hesitated. I was genuinely curious about who had previously owned this phone.
I opened the photo gallery, hoping to find some pictures or clues.
Sure enough, there were two images–one taken in our residential complex, and another taken inside our house!
The second photo showed part of a woman’s hand: delicate skin, slender fingers.
