Chapter 113
Hannah’s POV
The warm glow of my phone screen illuminated the darkened corner of the bedroom where 1 stood. Victoria’s message had just ended–a full sixty seconds of what could only be described as smug satisfaction
…and you should have seen Grant’s face, dear. Green as a Christmas tree!” Victoria s aristocratic tone carried a hint of glee that was almost childlike. “I’ve secured the moral high ground quite firmly. Mrs. Hawkins and I made quite the team she was positively livid that Olivia’s scheming ruined her granddaughter’s birthday celebration. We made it perfectly clear to everyone that the Grants were solely responsible for this debacle. Your heroic rescue of Eliza was the highlight of our narrative, of course. Even Ms. Morgan herself confirmed you saved her from those dreadful men.
I couldn’t help but smile. Victoria might be calculating and manipulative, but when she was on your side, it was like having a nuclear weapon in your arsenal. I set the phone down and headed toward the dining area.
Finn was already seated at the table when I arrived, his posture strangely tense. He’d unbuttoned the top two buttons of his crisp white shirt, and there was something different about his expression–something volatile simmering beneath the
surface.
I quietly removed the lunch plates I’d set out earlier, which had gone untouched. Replacing them with the fresh dinner I d picked up on the way home, I tried to move efficiently but without making sudden noises.
“Come here,” he commanded suddenly, his voice low and rough.
I approached him cautiously, dish towel still in hand. Without warning, he reached out and pulled me onto his lap. I gasped as his arm locked around my waist, securing me against him.
“Finn, what-
His mouth captured mine in a kiss that was nothing like our previous ones. This was demanding, possessive- almost punishing. His hand cradled the back of my head, fingers tangling in my hair as he deepened the kiss. I telt a shiver runt through me, a mixture of desire and something like fear.
When I tried to pull back to catch my breath, I caught a flash of something on his face a darkness, an almost frightening intensity. For a split second, I glimpsed the man who had terrorized the Grant family tonight, who had turned fountai water blood–red just to make a point.
Rather than pull away, I softened against him, meeting his intensity with acceptance. My body trembled slightly as his hands moved over me, memorizing every curve as if assuring himself I was really there, unharmed.
When he finally broke the kiss, we were both breathing hard.

You can t handle even this much he taunted, though his voice lacked it’s usual edge.
I admitted, feeling heat rush to my cheeks. I’ve never been kissed like that before
His fingertips traced my collarbone, sending electric currents through my skin Like what? he pressed, his eyes tracking
the path of his fingers
Like you were afraid I might disappear, I answered honestly, then quickly changed the subject Thank you for handling the Grant situation. For everything you’ve done for me.”
Something shifted in his expression–a softening around the edges that few people ever got to see.
Im sorry,” he said abruptly, the words seeming to surprise even him.
For what? I asked, genuinely confused.
For missing our wedding. His voice was quiet, carrying a rare note of regret. “I was injured, but still. I should have been
there.”
I shook my head gently. “You were severely wounded, Finn. I understand.”
His hand found mine, fingers intertwining with unexpected tenderness. “I want to give you a real-
The sudden blaring of my ringtone cut through the moment. I glanced at my phone on the counter, hesitating. Finns eyes followed mine, his expression unreadable.
I should get that,” I said reluctantly, slipping off his lap. “It might be important.”
Checking the caller ID, I saw Eliza’s name and quickly answered, stepping out onto the terrace for privacy.
Hannah. Eliza’s composed voice came through the speaker. I’ve decided to accept Sterling Entertainment’s offer. I’ll let you adapt my novel series.”
My heart leaped. Are you serious? You’re really coming on board?”
“Yes. Your terms are acceptable, and after our… adventure, I trust your judgment. I’ll be at your office tomorrow at nine to discuss the adaptation details.”
I ended the call feeling dizzy with excitement. Convincing Eliza to work with us—the goal I’d been pursuing relentlessly. I took a deep breath of the cool night air, trying to process this sudden turn in our fortune.
I didn’t hear Finn approach, but suddenly his arms encircled me from behind, his chest warm against my back. The scent of his cigarette reached me first–he’d already lit it before coming outside.

Chapter 113
I turned my head to look at him. As he exhaled, the smoke curled upward into the night sky There was something mesmerizing about watching him smoke–practiced, confident, oddly sensual but my body betrayed the with a stan
involuntary cough.
Without a word, Finn reached over and extinguished the cigarette in the soil of a potted plant on the terrace his movements smooth and deliberate. His free hand then returned to trace the curve of my neck, his touch feather light bud
intentional.
“Good news?‘ he asked, his breath warm against my ear.
I nodded, my body responding to his proximity with a tremor that had nothing to do with the evening chill Eliza called Eliza called. She’s agreed to let Sterling Entertainment adapt her novel series.
His fingers continued their exploration along my neck, down to my collarbone. And that makes you happy!
“Yes,” I breathed, unable to focus properly with his touch distracting me. It’s something I’ve always wanted.
I lifted my head to look at him, my breath catching at the intensity in his eyes. In the dim light, they seemed to glow with something primal–hunger, possession, and something else I couldn’t quite name.
The horn of a distant boat sounded softly across the Hudson River, a gentle echo in the night air. With that far–off sound, Finn’s arm around my waist tightened almost imperceptibly, drawing me closer against him.
“You’ll get everything you want,” Finn promised, his voice low and certain against my ear. “Everything.”
Lost in the moment–his handsome face so close to mine, the warmth of his body against my back–1 heard myself whisper, “What if I want you?”
The words hung in the air between us. My cheeks instantly burned as I realized what I’d said, embarrassment washing over
Finn’s eyes darkened, something primal flickering in their depths. Without warning, he bent down and swept me into his
arms.
“Right now,” he responded, his voice a low rumble that I felt more than heard.
He strode toward the bedroom, carrying me with such effortless strength that my heart raced.
