Chapter 91

Hannah’s POV

46

William’s words hung in the air, heavy with contempt. I’ve offered him legitimate positions numerous times. He’s the one who proved himself incompetent!

I felt my body tense at this accusation. Incompetent? The Finn I knew was many thingsdangerous, unpredictable, even cruel at times-

but incompetent wasn’t one of them. I’d seen firsthand how quickly he absorbed information, how strategically he thought when planning

our revenge schemes. Something didn’t add up.

My eyes darted to Victoria, searching for an explanation. She caught my gaze and gave an almost imperceptible shake of her head,

mouthing laterbefore turning back to the board members.

William,Victoria said, her voice carrying a practiced blend of motherly concern and business acumen, perhaps you’re being too harsh.

Finn has shown tremendous growth over these past years. His understanding of our client relationships and market positioning is

exceptional.

Several board members nodded in agreement, their earlier suspicions seemingly forgotten in the wake of Finn’s heroic rescueof Sophia. I

watched the room carefully, noticing how quickly the narrative was shifting.

Sophia, who had been silent until now, suddenly straightened in her seat. Her eyes, still red from her supposed ordeal, fixed on Finn with

a sweetness so artificial it made my teeth ache.

If I may,she said, her voice soft and trembling for effect, I think there might be a compromise here. She turned to William with a gentle smile. Perhaps Finn could take over Sterling Entertainment? I know it’s one of our smaller subsidiaries, but it would give him a

chance to prove himself without risking our core businesses.

Victoria’s lips tightened almost imperceptibly. Sterling Entertainment was clearly a consolation prizea small division compared to the finance and real estate empires that formed the backbone of the Sterling Group.

Before Victoria could object, I stepped forward. That sounds like a wonderful opportunity,I said, my voice steady and confident. Finn

would excel in entertainmenthe has a natural understanding of what people want.

The room fell silent, all eyes turning to me in surprise. Even Finn shifted slightly beside me, though his expression remained carefully

neutral behind his sunglasses.

William’s cold gaze settled on me, calculating and suspicious. Very well,he said after a long pause. Two months. Finn will have full control of Sterling Entertainment. If he can show growth in that time, the division remains his.His eyes narrowed as he looked at his

son. Fail, and you lose more than just a company division.

The threat was clearfailure would cost Finn his inheritance rights. The same inheritance William had been using to control him all these

years.

Victoria, sensing the shift in power dynamics, quickly stepped in. I think that’s enough business for today. Finn needs rest after his

heroic efforts. She gestured toward his bloodsoaked bandages. And Hannah should rest too, given her condition.

Finn stood slowly, leaning heavily on me for dramatic effect. Just as we were about to leave, he stopped, turning back to face the room.

Wait,he said, his voice rough with feigned pain. Sophia deserves something special after her ordeal. His lips curved into what might

have looked like a sympathetic smile to others, but I recognized the dangerous glint in his expression. Amy, please bring Ms. Miller that

special soup from the kitchen. The one I had prepared earlier.

The room grew quiet as Amy nodded and disappeared. Moments later, she returned with an elegant silver tureen on a tray. The polished

lid gleamed under the chandelier light as Amy placed it before Sophia.

A small token,Finn said smoothly, to help you recover.

Sophia looked genuinely touched as she reached for the lid. How thoughtful-Her words cut off in a bloodcurdling scream as she lifted

the cover.

Inside the tureen was what appeared to be a snarling dog’s head, teeth bared in a grotesque expression. The room erupted in chaos. Sophia fell backward in a dead faint, her assistant frantically fanning her face. Board members jumped to their feet, expressions ranging

from horror to disgust.

Finn laughed, the sound cold and unsettling. It’s just flour,he said dismissively. Sculpted by the chef. Though the broth beneath is quite

nutritiouseven more nourishing than that A5 Wagyu you’re so fond of.

I stood frozen, stunned by the calculated cruelty of his revenge, as William bellowed for security. Taking advantage of the chaos, I grabbed

Finn’s arm and quickly led him from the room.

Use the blue bottle on the vanityit’s special makeup remover,I instructed once we reached the suite, my voice shaking slightly. Regular soap won’t get that theatrical blood off completely, and the residue isn’t good for your skin if it stays on too long.I pointed toward the bathroom door. The cotton pads are in the top drawer. I need to speak with Victoria.

I found her in the east wing sitting room, calm despite the commotion downstairs. What did William mean?I demanded without

preamble. About Finn being incompetent?

Victoria sighed, suddenly looking every one of her seventy years. When Finn returned five years ago, he learned everything at an astonishing pace. Languages, finance, corporate lawhe absorbed it all like a sponge.

But?I prompted.

But three years ago, he signed a disastrous contract. Equal partnership with a streaming service that ended up costing the company over

one hundred million dollars.

I shook my head in disbelief. That doesn’t sound like him at all.

I didn’t think so either, Victoria admitted. I’ve always had my suspicions, but William used it as proof that Finn wasn’t ready for real

responsibility.

I want to see that contract,I said firmly.

Victoria nodded. I’ll find the electronic copy and send it to you. But HannahHer eyes searched mine. Be careful. There are layers to

this family’s problems that even I don’t fully understand.

My phone pinged with Victoria’s message as I made my way back to our suite. I swiped through the document, scanning the clauses as I

pushed open the door.

I looked up from my phone, only to freeze in the doorway. Finn stood by the bathroom, his torn and bloodied shirt discarded on top of the waste bin. But the fake woundsthe ones we’d so carefully created with makeup and theatrical bloodremained perfectly intact on

his skin.

He hadn’t even attempted to clean them off.

Did younot know how to use it?I asked, stepping further into the room.

Finn scoffed, his lips curling into a dismissive smirk. The bottle has pictures all over it. What’s not to understand?

Then why didn’t you use it?I pressed, setting my phone down on the side table.

Finn leaned lazily against the wall, shoulders shrugging slightly. Too much trouble,he said, voice dripping with boredom.
