Heaven or Hell: Loving My Twisted Billionaire novel Chapter 94

Chapter 94

Hannah’s POV

was so absorbed in the contract details that I didn’t hear him approach. The sudden warmth of another person behind me made me

jump.

What are you looking at?

Finn’s voice, low and dangerous, sent a chill down my spine. I clutched the tablet to my chest, my heart racing as I turned to face him. He stood closetoo closehis perfect face just inches from mine. I averted my eyes, trying not to stare at the sharp angles of his jawline or

the intensity in his gaze.

II was just reviewing some documents,I stammered, trying to sound casual despite my racing pulse.

His eyes narrowed. That’s the contract I signed three years ago. Why are you looking at it?

The scent of mint toothpaste wafted between us with each word he spoke. A tiny dot of white toothpaste lingered at the corner of his mouth, an oddly humanizing detail on his otherwise perfect face. It struck me that I hadn’t even noticed when he’d woken up or gone to

brush his teeth.

There’s something strange about these contracts,I said, gathering my courage. They have intentional typos and homophonic traps.

Homophonic what? His tone turned sharp, defensive.

I took a deep breath. Words that sound the same but have different meanings when written. Like rightversus writeor theirversus there.I hesitated, unsure how to phrase my next question delicately. Finn, how many words can yourecognize when reading?

A cold smile spread across his face, but it didn’t reach his eyes. You’re asking if I can read?

No! I mean-I fumbled, feeling heat rise to my cheeks.

A person who’s never spent a day in schoolhow many words do you think they’d know? His voice was casual, but I could see the tension in his shoulders, the slight twitch at the corner of his eye.

He stepped closer, and I caught the full impact of his presencevulnerable yet fierce all at once. Like a dying wolf, weakened and broken inside, yet still baring its teeth in a snarl of defiance. My heart ached at the sight. Behind that dangerous facade was someone desperately wounded, putting on a show of strength because he had no one to lean on, no safe place to lick his wounds.

Do you regret staying with me now?he asked, his voice dropping to a whisper. Now that you know I’m not just violent but stupid too?

I reached up without thinking, my fingertips gently wiping away the toothpaste from the corner of his mouth. His eyes widened slightly at the unexpected touch.

You taught yourself, I said softly. Without schools of teachers. That’s not stupid, Finn. That’s remarkable

He caught my wrist, his grip firm but not painful. Don’t patronize me.

I’m not. I met his gaze steadily. I want to help. There’s a game on my phone that can test vocabulary levels. Would you like to try it

He scoffed, releasing my wrist. A children’s game? No thanks.

I’ll do something embarrassing if you agree,I offered impulsively.

His eyebrow arched. Like what?

Anything. You choose.

A dangerous smile spread across his face. Meow for me.

I blinked. What?

Meow. Like a cat.His eyes gleamed with amusement and something darker. Do it, and I’ll play your little word game.

My cheeks burned with embarrassment, but I’d made the offer. Taking a deep breath, I squeezed my eyes shut.

Meow,I whispered.

I can’t hear you,he taunted.

Opening my eyes, I met his gaze defiantly. Meow!I said, louder this time, elongating the sound. Meooow!

Something shifted in his expression. The mocking smile disappeared, replaced by an intensity that made my breath catch. His pupils dilated, and his gaze dropped to my lips.

Good girl,he murmured, his voice husky.

The tension between us crackled like electricity. After a moment that seemed to stretch forever, he cleared his throat.

Let’s get this over with,he said, gesturing to my phone.

I pulled up the vocabulary test app with trembling fingers. For twenty minutes, Finn answered questions about word meanings, his face increasingly frustrated as he encountered words he didn’t recognize.

When the test finished, the screen displayed his results: approximately 3,000 words.

Is that bad?he asked, his voice carefully neutral.

For someone who never went to school? It’s impressive,I said honestly. Most children know about 2,000 to 3,000 words when they are eight, but they ve had several years of formal education in school. You taught yourself, Finn. That shows incredible determination.

He studied my face, searching for signs of mockery or pity. You’re just blowing sunshine up my ass to make me feel better.

I laughed despite myself. No, I’m genuinely impressed. ButI hesitated, then pushed forward. I could help you increase your vocabulary. So you won’t be tricked by contracts like that one again.

His jaw tightened. You want to teach me to read? Like I’m one of your special needs kids?

Yes,I said firmly. I believe that at heart, you’re just as pure and deserving of care and love as those children.

Finn scoffed, Another cliché about treating people like children that need coddling.

I quickly tried to explain, It’s not just a line, I really believe-I stopped midsentence as realization dawned on me. Wait, you said another? The last time I said something like this was when you were blind. Have your memories returned?

Finn wouldn’t meet my eyes. They came back a while ago. When I jumped into the water to save youthat’s when I remembered.

So you’ve just been pretending to be all fierce and dangerous to me?I complained, crossing my arms.

Last time, you stopped being afraid of me too easily,he said with haughty defensiveness. This time, you’ll have to earn it slowly.

I was never afraid of you,I replied with a tender smile, my voice softening as I looked at him. But if what you want is this kind of unconditional favoritism, I’ll keep giving it to you. Always.

His expression shifted at my words. Without warning, he pulled me into a tight embrace, his arms wrapping around me with surprising gentleness despite his sudden movement.

You remember when you offered to move into my villa?he murmured against my hair.

I nodded, my cheek pressed against his chest. Of course I do.

He lowered his head, his lips finding my earlobe. The gentle touch of his mouth sent shivers down my spine as he whispered, Let’s do it

today.
