Ryan casually tossed his phone onto the bed, and then strode over to Nina. “Don’t even think about getting your by anyone else. Your money? Only I get to earn it. If any other guy tries, I’ll feed him to the dogs.”

Nina hooked a finger under his chin, smirking. “Don’t worry. Right now, you’re the only one who keeps me satisfied.”

Ryan didn’t know what to say.

If Nina hadn’t given him her first time, he’d honestly think she’d hooked up with a bunch of guys.

‘Her flirting game is on another level, Ryan thought.

Ryan was frustrated and resigned, but finally just said, “Come downstairs. I’ll cook.”

“Nah, I’ll eat when I get back,” Nina replied.

Ryan shot her a look, his tone brooking no argument. “No way. You’re eating here before you go.”

He thought, ‘How’s she supposed to have the energy to deal with those people if she doesn’t eat first? Everyone back at the Swanson residence is probably waiting for her.

‘If I don’t feed her properly, she’ll just get mad and start beating people up again. I really have to do something about her nasty habit of kicking me every time she gets pissed!

Later, Ryan pulled up in front of the Swanson residence.

He turned to Nina in the back seat. “I’m going in with you.”

As he spoke, Ryan glanced down at his luxury watch. By now, the Mercer family should’ve gone under. Someone in the Swanson family must be losing their mind right about now.

Nina opened the door, completely unfazed. “This is family business. You should stay out of it.”

Ryan didn’t know what to say.

‘Damn, she really just gets what she wants and then acts like I’m total stranger, Ryan thought.

Nina walked off without so much as a glance back. Ryan just sat there, watching her go for ages, but in the end, he didn’t get out to back her up.

Nina was never the type to need anyone backing her up. It was always Ryan, jumping in uninvited, trying to fix things every time she got herself into a jam.

Truth was, she could always handle things on her own.

Earlier, while they were eating, Nina said, “Ryan, it wasn’t just that misunderstanding. The real reason I broke up with you is that you’re way too clingy.”

Her words hit him like a truck. He knew Nina well enough to know that if it was just a misunderstanding, she wouldn’t have said no to getting back together. There had to be another reason

He’d run through a million possibilities, but it never even occurred to him that being glued to her side 24/7 would actually annoy her.

Maybe he really did need to back off and give Nina some breathing room. The harder he pushed, the further she’d run.

Ryan glanced at the Swanson residence, started the car, and drove away.

The moment Nina stepped into the house, a shrill voice pierced the air. “Nina, you actually have the nerve to come back? What did I do in my previous life to end up with a brat like you or a daughter?”

The screeching made Nina’s ears ache. She looked up toward the living room.

Vivian was standing there, glaring with wild eyes. Her hair was a total mess, looking like she was about to blow a fuse.

To Nina, she wasn’t seeing some elegant lady or a classy professor. All she saw was a shrieking shrew, or maybe a ghost without fangs, not even scary enough to be called evil.

Nina suddenly burst out laughing. She almost never laughed, but this time, she just couldn’t hold it in.

She remembered how every time Vivian faced her, all those years of fake elegance disappeared the moment she saw Nina, gone in a flash.

‘Humans, huh? So damn weird, Nina thought.

Even though she knew she’d never get the upper hand with Nina, she just kept coming back to pick a fight. She never learned her lesson.

Nina suddenly wondered about what went on in the brain of a professor who was obsessed with studying human IQ.

Suddenly, Nina’s eyes sparkled. That’s an interesting subject. I should totally study it sometime, she thought.

“Nina, what did I ever do to you? Why are you out to ruin me?” Martin, dressed in a sharp suit, was roaring like a pissed-off lion.

He said, “You knew Lydia would be your sister-in-law, but you still let Ryan bankrupt the Mercer family. What are you really after?”

Martin was waving his hands around like he was all tough, but he didn’t dare lay a finger on Nina.
