Chapter 224
Chapter 224
Nina gave the gossiping crowd a chilly look before heading inside the party hall.
She stood at the entrance, scanning the room as her brows knitted slightly.
She couldn’t spot the person she was looking for.
Nina gave Lily a careless look.

Lily shifted uncomfortably under her gaze. “Nina, did I mess something up? Why are you looking at me like that?”
Before Nina could say a word, Lily put on her best pitiful act, locking like she was about to burst into tears. “I’ve done everything I could. Please don’t be disappointed in me.”
Nina didn’t say a word but just stared Lily down.
After a long pause, Nina finally spoke, her voice cool. “Clearly, this is as far as your abilities go.”
With that, Nina walked straight into the party hall without another word.
Lily’s hands clenched into fists at her sides, her eyes burning with hatred.
She thought, ‘Damn Nina, who does she think she is, looking down on me?
‘Does she really think just because she threw a birthday party for that old hag at the top of the Grand Crest Hotel, everyone’s going to kiss her ass?
‘She’s just riding on a man’s coattails.
‘What makes Nina think she’s so much better than me?’
Lily took a deep breath, swallowing her annoyance, and then joined Vivian in greeting the guests.
Nina greeted Sarah, then picked up a glass of wine and went to offer toasts to a few familiar faces.
Most of the guests here tonight were invited by Lily.
Lily had asked Nina if she wanted to invite anyone.
Nina only invited Elaine.
But Elaine couldn’t make it because of some family drama.
She wasn’t able to show up, but she still sent Nina a present.
Not just the pricey dress Nina had on, but also some stunning jewelry.
Every single piece was a unique creation by Elaine herself.
None of them had ever been put up for sale.
As for Ryan, he just tagged along without an invite, not shy abot it at all.
Maria was supposed to come, too, but the Foster family was going through a rough patch, so she couldn’t get away.
Still, Maria had prepared a gift for Nina.

Ryan had already given it to Nina yesterday.

Even though Nina hadn’t invited many people herself, there were still plenty of familiar faces who showed up for the
Swansons’ sake.
Like the Carter family.
And some legendary healers, like Paul and Oscar.
The Carroll family also sent someone over.
Loren was still on the mend, so the Carrolls couldn’t come themselves. But to show how much they valued the occasion, Cheney’s wife, Rachel, came in their place.
Sarah had invited her friends, too, the same group she’d dined with before.
Ethan’s friends were also in attendance.
Nina didn’t know most of them, but she made a point to greet each one.
Wearing a designer gown, Nina mingled among the guests. She’d stop and chat a bit longer with people she recognized, and for those she didn’t, she’d offer a polite hello after being introduced.
She handled herself perfectly.
“Damn girl, how is she not even a little nervous?” Vivian muttered, her brows furrowed, her dislike for Nina written all over her face.
Lily’s fingers curled into tight fists, her jaw clenched. “Mom, can’t you see? We really underestimated Nina.
“That nightclub woman didn’t just teach her how to seduce men. She taught her all the tricks to manipulate people.”
Lily was just waiting for Nina to mess up and give her something to laugh about.
At Sarah’s birthday party last time, Nina didn’t get to mingle with the guests at all.
But tonight, it was Nina’s big night. She had to go around and toast everyone herself.
Lily figured that, having been raised in a nightclub, Nina wouldnt know the first thing about social graces, especially in these high-society circles. She was sure Nina would make a spectacle of herself.
Then Lily could step in and smooth things over, making herself ook like the gracious one.
But to Lily’s shock, Nina didn’t flinch at all. She mingled among the guests with a regal elegance, giving no one any reason to criticize her.
