Chapter 416
Everyone exchanged glances, unsure of what to say.
The Project c175 experiment had been refined by Russell in ten minutes. It couldn’t have been faked, and all the data had been projected onto the screen.
And Russell called Nina “Ms. Swanson”. If she didn’t have real skills, someone like Russell wouldn’t call her that willingly.
Therefore, no one at the institute backed Owen up.
Nina shot a quick glance at Owen and Claire.
Owen grinned at Nina. “Ms. Swanson, this institute respects ability. If you want us to follow you, you need to prove yourself.
“Here’s the deal. Besides Project c175, there’s also Project R6. If you can complete it, we’ll admit your competence.”
Nina didn’t say a word. She just fixed Owen with a cool, unwavering stare.
Owen let out a mocking laugh. “Ms. Swanson, are you scared?”
If Nina really had what it took, he would bow to her authority. If not, this was his chance to force her out of the institute.
He thought, ‘Why should a girl barely out of her teens be the new boss?’
Right now, Owen’s resentment flared stronger than ever.
Nina’s lips curled into a faint, mocking smile. “Honestly, it’s been ages since I ran into someone this dumb.”
Owen was about to say something, but before he could get a word out, Nina suddenly stood up and started walking toward him slowly.
Then she spun around and fixed her gaze on Wylder. “What do you mean by this?”
Wylder met Nina’s piercing stare, feeling uneasy but forcing a stiff, awkward smile. “I trust you, but you know how people talk. Maybe you should do something to make them truly respect you.”
Nina grinned. “Sure, let’s make a bet then.”
Wylder suddenly felt uneasy. He felt that Nina was about to set a trap.
Sure enough, before Wylder could think further, Nina said, “If Inish Project R6 on my own, you give me the files I want, and you show Owen the door.”
Wylder instantly put up his guard. “What kind of files are you after?”
He honestly couldn’t care less about kicking Owen out. In his eyes, Owen was nothing but a troublemaker. Even if Nina hadn’t said a word, he wouldn’t have kept him around.
However, he knew that getting rid of Owen was just a smokescreen for Nina.
What she really wanted was the files.
And he had a feeling Nina wasn’t after just one file. She probably wanted a whole stack of them.
“Four files. Do you have the guts to bet on that?” Nina shot back.
Wylder thought, I knew Nina was definitely cooking up something.

Seeing Wylder hesitate, Owen jumped in. “Come on, Mr. Quentin, take the bet. Trust me. She doesn’t stand a chance.”
Wylder’s face darkened. “Shut your mouth.”
He thought, ‘This idiot knows nothing. I brought Nina in, and Ruby trained her. She earned dual degrees from Betrico University as a teenager. Can such a prodigy really fail at Project R6?’
Wylder was starting to regret what he’d just said. Now he was feeling tense all over.
Nina gave Wylder a faint smile. “Looks like this place isn’t big enough for us. Russell, let’s pack up and leave.”
Russell had had enough of this crap for a long time. He called out to the crew to start packing up right away.
Wylder was pissed. He cleared his throat. “Hold on. What are you doing? I never said no.”
Nina smiled. “Good.”
Wylder was speechless. He thought, ‘Damn, I’m being forced into this.’
Once Nina got a clear answer, she settled back into her chair. Suddenly, she looked up at Wylder and grinned. “So, Mr. Quentin, shall I get started?”
Wylder didn’t say a word. He could tell that Nina was definitely plotting something again.
Sure enough, Nina added, “Once I start, the bet is on. Mr. Quentin, no backing out, or I’ll be very displeased.”
She propped her chin on one hand, drumming her fingers on the desk with the other. “Let me think about what I might do when I’m displeased.”
Nina’s lips curled into a sly smile. “Mr. Quentin, I heard you just scored a famous painting. It must be your new baby. Just a friendly reminder, watch out for fire.”
