Chapter 474
Veda glanced at Ethan, getting anxious.
Her parents were dead set on it. She had to get married tonight, to matter what.
But if they waited until nightfall, the whole village would show up.
By then, there’d be no way for them to escape.

Veda thought, her heart pounding. What am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to get them out of here?”
Worried that her parents might get angry and take it out on Ethan and the others, Veda quickly said, “I’ll get started right away.”
After a pause, she added. “But could you wake up Ethan’s sister first? She knows how to do makeup, and I could really use her help.
Zuri frowned at Veda.
Veda pleaded. “Mom, please, I’m begging you. This is a big day in my life, and I’m marrying someone I truly love. I just want to look my absolute best when I get married.”
When Zuri still didn’t respond, Veda hurried to add, “Mom, I promise, if you agree, I’ll do whatever you and Dad want from now on. Whatever you say. I’ll listen, I swear.”
Zuri turned to Riggs. “What do you think?”
“Let’s do as she says, Riggs replied.
He looked up at Veda and let out a sigh. “Veda, don’t hold it against us. We’re doing this for your own good. Your beauty, everything you enjoy. It all comes from this village. You need to give back to everyone here.”
Veda lowered her eyes, masking the shadow in her gaze. “I understand.”
“Okay,” Riggs said.
He stood up, “We’ll take Ethan with us to get the wedding ready. The two girls stay with you.”
Once Riggs and Zuri left, Veda finally walked over to Nina. She pulled out a vial, about to use it to remove the parasite fro Nina, but before her hand could even reach Nina’s face, a hand suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Veda’s eyes widened in surprise, then lit up with excitement. “You didn’t get infected by the parasite?”
Nina glanced at the vial in Veda’s hand and said coolly, “Using such a low-level parasite, should I call you guys arrogant, or just way too careless?”
Veda was stunned into silence.
Her parents had used this parasite on so many people, and not a single person had ever gotten away.
And her parents had spent years developing this parasite, but Nina had the nerve to call it “low-level”?
Veda knew she was right that Nina was definitely not an ordinary girl.
Veda looked up at Nina. “You heard everything?”
“I heard everything I was supposed to hear, and everything I wasn’t,” Nina replied, glancing up. “So, what now? Planning to

Before Veda could say anything, Nina added, “Don’t get me wrong, but you’re not even close to being my match.”
Veda just stared, lost for words.
From Nina’s attitude, she was sure that Nina was Ethan’s sister.
“Since you overheard our conversation, you should know I’m not out to hurt you,” Veda said.
“I know,” Nina replied.
Nina glanced at Veda. “Honestly, I never would’ve guessed there was a girl out there who’d been carrying a torch for Ethan all these years.”
Ethan had always been a total flop with girls, from grade school the way through college.
He might’ve had the title of the Swanson family’s heir, but he didn’t actually have any real power.
He was a young master in name only, living a life even worse than that of an average kid.
Ethan went to school in Riverdale from elementary through high school, and everyone in his circle knew he was never favored at home. Girls always steered clear of him.
When he got to college, Ethan was all about hustling part-time jobs and keeping to himself, so no girls ever paid him any
attention.
But who would’ve thought Veda had been secretly into him all these years?
And Ethan had no idea.
Veda’s cheeks turned pink. “Can you please keep this from Ethan”
Nina arched an eyebrow. “Why?”
“He and Elaine are a couple, right?” Veda asked, nodding toward Elaine.
