Vance and Laura's expressions flickered with pain before they quickly turned to Shannon for help.
"Ms. Jensen, something evil must've possessed our child! Please, you have to drive that thing out of her!"
"That's right! You have to do that, Ms. Jensen! Please save our girl!"
Their voices were filled with desperation and certainty, but what stood out even more was how unsurprised they seemed that Caitlin was protecting the spirit.
Juniper shot the couple a glance, something unreadable flickering in his eyes. Not for anything, but because when the couple first came to Windsong Monastery, they had said the exact same thing.
Their daughter had been possessed.
They had been as insistent then, but Juniper remembered clearly that he had checked her himself—there was no sign of possession.
Of course, the Callaghans didn't believe it.
Shannon glanced at the couple, her voice calm and even. "Your child isn't possessed."
Vance opened his mouth to argue, but she continued before he could speak.
"The mystic chains can bind anything tainted by negative energy. She was able to pass through them, which means there's nothing evil attached to her."
Juniper nodded in quiet agreement, backing up her statement. It was just as he had determined before.
Still, he asked the question everyone else was thinking, "If she's not possessed, why is she protecting what's inside that room?"
Soon, everyone found their answer.
