Francis wasn't the only one who was stupefied—both Sheila and Rachel were speechless, too.
A sense of defeat sank in. It was both a shock and something they had seen coming. From the moment they saw Shannon, what little flicker of hope they had been holding onto instantly disappeared.
Shannon was truly the Jensens' daughter.
After getting over the initial shock, the women felt an overwhelming sense of jealousy—especially Rachel.
All along, she knew that Shannon was beautiful. Thus, whenever they used to attend events together, Rachel would force Shannon to wear plain outfits to avoid letting Shannon outshine her.
Because Rachel had "kindly" picked those outfits for Shannon, Sheila would force Shannon to wear them. It didn't matter how reluctant she was. She either had to wear what Rachel chose or go naked.
And yet, thanks to her fair skin, Shannon was still able to wear even the most dreary and outdated of colors without looking drab. Rachel's years of effort only resulted in people thinking that Shannon was beautiful but simply had a poor fashion sense.
But now, removed from the clutches of the Gray family, Shannon looked youthful and sophisticated in her black gown with white embroidered flowers. Although it was mainly black in color, it gave off a sense of purity and refinement.
She drew all eyes just by simply appearing in public.
One of the female guests murmured, "Is that Ms. Jensen? I think the gown she's wearing is the latest haute couture gown released not too long ago by the renowned fashion designer, Aero."
Most women had some form of interest in fashion. Someone swiftly followed up on the first guest's remark, "That's right. I even recall that this design hasn't even been launched officially yet. How did the Jensens get their hands on it?"
"Have you forgotten about Annalise Jensen? With her standing in the fashion world, she can easily borrow a gown or two like that at the drop of a hat."
Shannon wondered what kind of heinous misdeed Rachel had done to attract something like that. The faint smile in her eyes gave way to a tinge of frostiness.
Standing beside Shannon, Adam and Hector noticed the slight change in Shannon's gaze, so they tracked her gaze and saw the Grays as well. Immediately, their brows creased a little.
Meanwhile, George was smiling as he formally introduced Shannon to the guests.
"Thank you for coming over today. We, the Jensens, are grateful for the friendship we share with all of you. That's why it is my pleasure to share some good news with you. Please allow me to introduce you to my oldest granddaughter, Shannon Jensen."
Following the introduction, Shannon—who was now officially Shannon Jensen—withdrew her gaze and smiled pleasantly as she greeted the crowd.
