His gaze swept across their faces, and his voice suddenly rose, rough and almost hoarse with urgency.
“You’re just going to stand there and watch?” His voice exploded in the afternoon air. “We’re from the Fifth Military! Soldiers of the Imperial Military! And you’re letting a farmer detain us? If this gets out, the entire Imperial Military will become a joke!”
He pointed at Elizabeth, his finger shaking. “What right does a civilian have to detain active–duty officers? If you all just stand by and do nothing, that’s neglect of duty! That’s betrayal of military honor!”
The air went quiet for a moment.
Then someone laughed.
Hudson stepped out from under the corridor roof. He stuffed the last bite of sponge cake into his mouth then slowly brushed the crumbs off his hands.
He looked at Evander, smiling faintly, but his eyes were cold. “Colonel Madsen, you’re talking about military honor?”
He shook his head. “You already threw that honor away. The Fifth Military did.”
Evander’s face turned red. “Hudson! You…”
“What?” Hudson cut him off. His voice wasn’t loud, but every word hit like a slap. “Your people poisoned the test subject during a joint assessment. They were caught in the act, and still tried to use force. When
that failed and they got stopped, now you’re dught i
about milit honor?”
He paused slightly. “Evander, don’t you feel disgusted with yourself?”
Evander’s lips trembled. He couldn’t say a single word.
He turned his head toward Ronald.
Ronald stood at the edge of the crowd, still holding his recording terminal. His expression didn’t change, but there was something in his eyes that made people feel a chill down their backs.
“Ronald! Don’t tell me you’re just going to stand by too? We still have a joint exercise between the Fifth and Second Military next month!”
“So what? With what you’ve done today, even if your superiors were here, I believe they wouldn’t step in either,” Ronald said calmly. He lifted his head and gave Evander a look, adding, “Because you got one thing wrong.”
His voice stayed steady, like he was reading an official report. “The one insulting the military isn’t this farm. It’s you. Your people did the poisoning. Your people used force. And the ones caught in the act are still your people from the Fifth Military.”
He closed his recording terminal. “From the beginning, the only ones bringing shame to the military are you. We have no duty to cover up your shameful actions.”

Evander’s face went through a quick change, his expression twisting with anger and humiliation he couldn’t hide.
He turned his eyes toward Elias. Elias only gave him one sentence. “I will never stand with wrongdoing!”
Evander almost threw up from rage.
In the end, he looked at Rafferty.
Rafferty was young and held a lower rank, but the First Military had close ties with Tycoon/Farm here. His words should carry weight.
“Lieutenant Salazar! Your First Military has always claimed strict discipline. If you just stand by today, you’re allowing local forces to interfere with military matters! If this gets out…”
“So what if it gets out?” Rafferty cut him off, his tone as calm as if he were talking about the weather. “If it gets out, everyone across the kingdom will know that Fifth Military personnel poisoned targets during a joint assessment, used force, and were caught in the act. And that the other military departments upheld justice and supported the farm’s legal right.” He looked straight at Evander and added, “Colonel Madsen, who do you think is the one bringing shame here? Us or you?”
Evander stood there with his mouth open, but no words came ou
Rafferty lowered his head and typed a few commands on his recording terminal. Then he looked up again, his voice rising slightly.
“The First Military oversight team, in accordance with Article 72 of the Imperial Military Oversight Regulations, officially supports the farm in placing temporary detention on Fifth Military personnel involved in this case. All evidence has been sealed. A Military Inspection Committee investigation team will arrive within forty minutes. Until then, no one is allowed to interfere.”
He put away his terminal and stepped to the side, clearing the path for Desmond.
His stance was very clear: they wouldn’t interfere with anything Tycoon Farm decided. In fact, they would support the farm in supervising the Fifth Military.
Evander watched as Desmond walked closer and finally understood something.
No one here was going to help him.
Not because they didn’t dare, but because they didn’t want to.
In their eyes, he and his people had already become a disgrace to the military.
Not worth helping. Not even worthy of help.
“Colonel Madsen,” Desmond said as he stood in front of him. His voice wasn’t loud, but steady. “Please cooperate. Don’t make this hard for us.”
