Chapter 593 Vanished
Aebi took another bite, then another

It began chewing in huge mouthfuls, no longer picky about the rough texture or caring that the leaves were old and tough.
It swallowed entire strawberry vines, chewed them apart, and gulped them down, not even sparing the wilted vegetable leaves.
It ate ravenously, juice running everywhere, its compound eyes even beginning to brighten.
In the monitoring room, Desmond stood before the screen in complete shock.
He had been standing there for a long time now-long enough that his legs had started going numb-but he still hadn’t moved
He stared at the giant soldier drone on the screen, sprawled on the ground and greedily devouring strawberry vines and grass leaves, eating with obvious enjoyment and enthusiasm.
Assuming Swarmborns even had body language that looked like enthusiastic head bobbing.
Hexo stood beside him, his mouth hanging open wide enough to fit a fist.
“Boss,” Hexo said in a voice that sounded half-asleep, “is that bug eating leaves?”
Desmond said nothing. He didn’t know what to say either.
When Elizabeth had said to feed them whatever the Cluckoo Chickens ate, he had assumed she was joking.
When Elizabeth had said that if they didn’t eat, they could starve, he had assumed she planned to kill them that way.
But now, these savage, bloodthirsty, meat-eating Swarmborns were lying on the ground happily stuffing themselves.
Not one of them, but a lot of them.
Desmond switched between screens, checking them one by one.
Some Swarmborn were eating strawberry vines, some were chewing cucumber vines, and every one of them wore expressions of complete satisfaction, as though feasting on priceless delicacies.

That soldier drone called Aebi had already eaten over half of its basket of vines. Its stomach was swollen and bulging, but it was still eating.
Hexo swallowed nervously and spoke carefully. “Ms. Schofield, what kind of magic did Ms. Schofield use? Why are these bugs eating leaves now?”
Desmond shook his head.
He didn’t know, and he didn’t want to know.
He only knew one thing: Elizabeth never said things casually
Then, his device vibrated.
Desmond looked down, and it was a message from Elizabeth.

So? Did they eat?”
Desmond was silent for a moment before replying with two words. “They ate.”

Elizabeth’s response arrived almost immediately. “Good. Give them more if they run out. Let them eat as much as they want These were the future backbone workforce of the farm, after all. They had to be raised healthy and strong
Desmond looked at those words, then at the Swarmborns off the screens busily chewing vines, and suddenly felt that the laws governing the world were somehow different from everything he thought he knew.
Far away, within Swarmborn territory, deep inside the brood nest…
The Swarmborn leader, an enormous insect with a massive body, dark-purple shell, and giant blood-moon-like compound eyes, lay upon a throne formed from countless hardened secretions of the Swarmborns
Its body occupied nearly one-third of the entire cavern. Six thick insect limbs, like six towering pillars, supported it firmly on the ground.
Around it stood dozens of slightly smaller elite Swarmborns lined up on either side, their shells giving off a cold gleam in the darkness.
“The defense map.” The giant insect leader’s voice emerged from deep within its abdomen, low and slow, like an ancient bell tolling.
A worker drone bowed and carefully carried over a thin glowing data tablet in its foreclaws.
The giant insect leader’s compound eyes swept across the contents. The countless light points, lines, and markings….
The military deployment along the eastern front of the kingdomysector, patrol routes, fortress positions, weapon configurations… every detail was clear and precise.
“Human greed,” the giant insect leader said with a trace of ridicule in its voice, “is sharper than our mouthparts.”
It withdrew its gaze and looked toward the first commander standing to its left.
“Kash. The defense map has been verified. Gather all available forces. Three days from now, we break through the eastern front. This time, we will tear apart the kingdom’s defenses and let humanity taste its own foolishness.”
Kash was a slender Swarmborn with a gray-white shell and pale golden compound eyes.
