It walked back to the center of the room and curled its six legs beneath itself on the floor, its compound eyes half-closed as the spikes on its shell slowly folded back down.

It began assessing its situation.

This room wasn’t large. Thick alloy plates had been welded into all four walls. There were no windows only a heavy seamless door.

It had already tried crashing into the walls earlier. The walls hadn’t moved at all, while a grack had appeared in its shell.

It had tried prying open the door seam with its foreclaws, but the seal was too tight. Not even a strand of hair could fit through it.

It had tried using pheromones to summon its companions, but the only scent in the air was its own.

This place felt like a tomb.

Time passed second by second.

After an unknown amount of time, a low, continuous rumbling began coming from Aebi’s abdomen

It was hunger.

Back in the Swarmborn nest, it had never needed to worry about food.

The worker drones brought food directly to their mouths, as they only needed to fight.

Even on the battlefield, it had never worried about food.

The spoils of war had been their food.

But now there were no worker drones, no spoils of war, and no food, only those scattered vines on the ground carrying the scent of plants.

Aebi turned its head, its compound eyes sweeping across the vines.

With disdain, it looked away.

Several more hours passed.

Aebi’s hunger grew stronger, and the rumbling from its abdomen became louder.

It tried standing and taking a few steps, but its legs felt weak.

It tried slamming into the walls again, but Aebi no longer had the strength it had before

Lying on the ground with half-closed compound eyes, it experienced a feeling it had never known before

What made it even more uncomfortable was that, at some point, the scent of those vines had drifted over and begun lingering around its nose.

The smell was strange. It wasn’t the scent of ordinary plants.

Ordinary plants smelled green and bitter, pungent-everything it hated.

But these vines smelled different.

Aebi couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

It was a scent more enticing than meat itself, filled with sweetness and temptation beyond comparison.

That definitely wasn’t the smell of ordinary weeds or vines.

Beneath that fresh plant fragrance, there was something else.

Something impossible to describe with words.

Like the first rays of morning sunlight touching dew, like the fragrance rising from soil after spring rain. like something that could seep directly into the depths of the soul and make every part of you feel comforted from within.

Aebi’s body trembled involuntarily.

Its compound eyes snapped open.

What was that?

Its instincts told it it was something good.

Something it had never encountered before, yet its body craved desperately.

One of its foreclaws unconsciously reached toward the nearest strawberry vine, but the moment it touched a leaf, it jerked it back as though shocked.

It let out an angry growl, as if cursing itself for its weakness.

Aebi was a high-level lifeform and a Swarmborn warrior. How could it eat such lowly things, food fit only for herbivores?

It turned around and faced away from the vines.

But that scent invaded everything, drifting through the air, slipping into its respiratory organs, sinking into its blood, stimulating every single one of its cells.

It began salivating, sticky fluid seeping from its mouthparts

It swallowed desperately, but it couldn’t stop it. The more it swallowed, the more saliva came,
