Chapter 614 Asking for a Chance

The two children immediately stopped arguing when they saw the fruit platter. They hurried over. One grabbed a slice of watermelon, while the other picked up a strawberry and stuffed it into his mouth.
Lawrence’s older son chewed for a few bites before suddenly widening his eyes.
“Dad, where did you buy these strawberries?”
His younger brother quickly nodded. “They taste way better than the fruit they give us for afternoon
snacks at school!”
Lawrence didn’t answer.
He watched the two children eating until juice covered their mouths. He looked at the relaxed expression on his wife’s face after tasting something so delicious.
A thought suddenly came to his mind. If one day he were really discovered and fired by the military, so what?
It wasn’t like he had to spend his entire life working there.
After putting the children to bed, Lawrence sat alone in the living room. lost in thought.
He remembered the retired soldiers he had seen at the farm. Silas, Marcus, and several retired veterans Lawrence knew.
Back then, Silas had been so badly injured. Now he was thriving at the farm. He could eat well, sleep well. work well, and his whole spirit had changed.
Lawrence thought that if one day he could also go somewhere like that, even if it was just farming or raising chickens, it would still be better than dragging himself through life in the military.
He looked up at the military portrait hanging on the wall. Then he looked at the half–empty plate of fruit left on the dining table. The balance in his heart was slowly beginning to tip.
He suddenly wanted to ask Silas whether Tycoon Farm was hiring. More specifically, whether they accepted people who had retired from Fifth Military.
After all, there was a lot of bad blood between the farm and Fifth Military. Whether they would be willing to take them in was far from certain..
Still unwilling to give up, Lawrence sent Cyrus a message.
“Captain Bramble, does Tycoon Farm accept people like us who’ve retired from Fifth Military?”
What he didn’t know was that Cyrus had been thinking the exact same thing.
That night, after finishing a dinner made entirely with ingredients from Tycoon Farm, Cyrus realized that the headaches that usually started every evening had mostly disappeared.

He closed his eyes and quietly felt the change. Then he opened them, picked up his communicator, and opened a contact list he hadn’t looked at in a long time.
Under that name, there was only one number.
After hesitating for a moment, he made the call.
The call connected much faster than he had expected.
Silas’s face appeared on the screen. He was eating in the cafeteria. His plate was piled high with all kinds of vegetables and eggs. There was even some crab…
That was crab, wasn’t it?
Those giant claws had to belong to a Crackshell Crab.
He had visited the Crackshell Crab breeding pond while he was at the farm. At the time, he had only thought the farm owner was being ridiculously unrealistic.
How could anyone raise such vicious creatures? If they escaped, wouldn’t they be incredibly dangerous?
But now, seeing the crab on Silas’s plate, he was completely convinced. The farm owner really was extraordinary.
At the same time, he couldn’t help feeling jealous.
The benefits at this farm were amazing.
The crabs hadn’t even gone on the market yet, but the farm employees were already eating them.
“Cyrus? You’re home already?” Silas didn’t seem surprised at all that Cyrus had contacted him.
Cyrus nodded before asking almost without thinking. “Roger, I have something I want to ask you.”
“Go ahead.” Silas put down his fork and looked at him.
“Are you still hiring at Tycoon Farm?”
A meaningful smile slowly appeared on Silas’s face.
He didn’t seem surprised. He simply looked at Cyrus with a faint smile. “What? You want to come?”
Cyrus immediately shook his head. “No. I’m still serving in the military. There’s no way I can retire right
now.”
He paused. “I’m asking on behalf of the brothers who have already retired from Fifth Military. You know how many people we’ve lost over the years. A lot of them haven’t had an easy life after retiring.”
As he spoke, a complicated feeling rose inside him.
Fifth Military had targeted Tycoon Farm at every turn. They had tripped them up, set traps for them, and
