Chapter 90 The Backer Behind the Plaza
Chapter 90 The Backer Behind the Plaza
What a joke.
The very first time Elizabeth set up a stall at Mercury Plaza, a customer had tested her potatoes on the spot and confirmed they were “premium grade.” After that, she’d gone straight to Starnet and formally submitted an application for official quality certification.
At the time, it was just for convenience–so future sales would have official backing and greater credibility.
She never expected it would come in this handy today, saving her outright from an undeserved “prison
sentence.”
“H–How is that possible?!” The long–haired man, who’d been so arrogant moments ago, was completely dumbfounded. His eyes were wide as saucers as he stared at the clear electronic certificate in disbelief.
The regular customers at the scene collectively let out long sighs of relief, smiles spreading across their faces as the weight lifted from their chests.
“It’s fake! That certificate has to be fake!” the long–haired man screeched, clutching at his last straw in a desperate attempt to salvage the situation. “You’re just a street vendor! How could you get a premium certification that fast? It’s forged!”
Just then, an annoyed voice cut in from beyond the crowd, “Who says it’s fake?”
Everyone turned toward the sound. Several people in white lab coats, clearly medical research staff by their bearing, were walking over.
At the front was a young woman whose expression was distinctly displeased. She shot the long–haired man a sharp look before glancing at the certificate projected from Elizabeth’s device. “This Premium Potato‘ certification.” she said sternly, “was personally reviewed by Ms. Cheryllina Greene of the Mental Power Research and Rehabilitation Center at Kingdom Third Hospital. She verified the testing data herself before recommending approval. How could it possibly be fake?”
She gave a cold snort and fixed the long–haired man with a glare. “If anyone’s making things up and slandering people, it’s you.”
Kingdom Third Hospital was ranked among the top three comprehensive hospitals in the entire Kingdom.
Their endorsement carried undeniable authority.
And just like that, the tide began to turn.
The two officers‘ previously conflicted expressions hardened. Their eyes shifted to the long–haired man, no longer friendly.
The man instantly panicked. Sweat beaded on his forehead as he stammered incoherently, “N–No! I wasn’t slandering anyone! It was he
She misled me on purpose! She hid the certificate and didn’t show it to me! That’s right! That’s what
happened!”
He tried to shove the blame onto
Elizabeth, but the excuse sounded painfully weak.

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he pointed at Elizabeth again, his voice rising with urgency. “Even if the certificate’s real, she’s still illegally occupying public space to run a stall! That’s a fact, right? That part’s definitely true! Officers, you can’t just ignore that!”
It was true—the Kingdom had regulations against unauthorized occupation of public space.
Just as the officers were about to question Elizabeth further, a leisurely yet unmistakably authoritative voice drifted over, tinged with the tone of someone long accustomed to command.
“Public space? Young man, that’s not quite accurate.”
The crowd turned. The retired old man who had bought ten potatoes earlier had somehow wandered
back.
Now, he stood there with his hands clasped behind his back, smiling faintly.
Under the puzzled gazes of the crowd, he casually gestured to the vast expanse of Mercury Plaza beneath their feet. His voice was calm, but his words landed like a bomb.
“This Mercury Plaza has always been property under the Sharps name. Since when did it become public space?”
The two officers clearly recognized him.
The older one immediately straightened and showed visible respect, dipping his head slightly. “Mr. Sharp, what brings you here?”
That single address-“Mr. Sharp“-was like a boulder dropped into still water, sending ripples through the crowd.
Quite a few older or well–informed onlookers recognized him at once–George Sharp, once at the helm of the illustrious Sharps.
In their heyday, the Sharps had been powerful enough to rival the Kingdom’s top five great families.
Though they’d gradually declined over the years, their residual prestige remained.
Especially among the older generation, the Sharps still represented a brilliant chapter of history and formidable foundations.
Elizabeth didn’t know the Sharps‘ exact background, but judging by the police and the crowd’s reaction, she could tell this old man was no ordinary retiree.
