Chapter 248 They Started It

Dylan, Benji, and the others were like tigers loosed from a cage, charging straight at the punks who had shoved Fiona and Peter!
In an instant, the scene went from one–sided harassment and sabotage to an all–out brawl.
The customers had the numbers on their side, and they were burning with outrage. They were all ordinary people with no real fighting ability, but with sheer numbers and raw anger, they actually beat the gang of punks back until they were stumbling away, clutching their heads and scrambling in panic.
Curses, cries of pain, and the sounds of fighting crashed together into one mess. That corner of the plaza fell completely into chaos.
“Stop! Stop right now! Security squad! Everyone, hands on your head and squat down!”
Just as the chaos hit its peak, the shrill wail of sirens finally ripped through the air, and two security squad hover cars came screaming in.
Deputy captain Justin rushed in with over a dozen fully armed officers carrying riot shields and stun batons.
“What the hell is this? Have you all lost your minds? Broad daylight, and you’re gathering to brawl and wreck public safety!” Justin took one look at the mess and secretly thrilled at how dead–on his brother–in- law had been, though his face stayed stern as he barked, “Arrest everyone involved in this fight! Every last one of them! Especially that woman leading it!”
He pointed straight at Elizabeth, who was shielding the children and watching with cold eyes.
The officers moved in at once, roughly forcing the crowd apart. Their real targets were obviously Elizabeth and her team, along with the few hot–blooded customers still beating on the punks.
“Stop! They started it! They came here to cause trouble and bully the kids!” Wallace shouted, his beard shaking with rage.
“Yeah! Officer, if you’re arresting anyone, you should grab those thugs first!”
“Ms. Schofield was defending herself! She was protecting the kids!”
“They came here on purpose to smash up the stall!”
The crowd shouted all at once, insisting the punks had made the first move and had been acting filthy.
Justin acted like he heard none of it. He walked to the stall and looked at the two punks still lying on the ground howling, their wrists or arms clearly twisted out of shape. A cold gleam flashed through his eyes. Then he pointed at Elizabeth and loudly announced, “You all saw it! This woman openly attacked people and used violence to cripple them! She also incited the crowd and caused a large–scale riot, seriously endangering public safety and wrecking social order! The evidence is right here!”
He didn’t say one word about the punks harassing people first or even trying to assault minors. He bit down hard on one story only: Elizabeth had violently injured people and started the riot.
“Now, by law, all items involved in this case will be seized! This violent offender, Elizabeth, and all her accomplices are to be taken away!” Justin waved his hand. Several officers lunged forward like wolves, ready

to slap cuffs on Elizabeth, while others moved to confiscate everything on the stall.

“You try it!” Wallace and the others roared, trying to block them, only to be forced back by more officers with riot shields and stun batons.
Elizabeth looked at Justin’s fake official act, the greed and malice barely hidden under it, the shameless twisting of black and white, and her heart turned cold.
She saw it now. This wasn’t law enforcement. This was aimed straight at her and her farm.
She gently pushed Tasha and Selina into Fiona’s arms and signaled for them to step back.
Facing the approaching officers, she didn’t resist. She only said to Justin in a clear, icy voice, “You’re the captain here, right? Are you really sure you want to do this? You’re not even asking what happened. You’re taking one side’s word for it, letting street trash provoke and harass people first, then using law enforcement as a cover to crush us.”
Justin had been nailed dead–on, and rage flared through him. “Enough crap! Cuff her! If she dares slander law enforcement again, tack on another charge!”
And just as the officers were about to lay hands on Elizabeth, a few others reached to flip the stall over at the worst possible second-
Several dark figures sliced through the gaps in the crowd like ghosts.
Fast. Precise. Silent in a way that made your skin crawl. No shouting. No warning. It was like they had always been part of the shadows on that ground.
The two officers charging in front suddenly felt sharp pain explode through their wrists. Iron–hard hands had clamped down on their pulse points, and numb agony shot through their whole arms in an instant. Their forward rush was cut off cold, and they froze there in miserable embarrassment.
As for the other two trying to flip the table, they were blocked and shoved back by what looked like casual movements. Their footing slipped, and they staggered backward several steps, nearly crashing into the officers behind them.
Justin’s eyelid twitched at the sudden turn of events, and his heart clenched hard.
But years of throwing his weight around in the Lower Three Districts, along with his blind faith in the badge on his chest, crushed that flash of dread almost as soon as it came.
