Chapter 249 Here On Official Business

“This is out of control! This is fucking insane!” This is fucking insane! Justin’s face flushed a violent red. In front of his own men and that entire crowd, he felt completely humiliated.
Rage and a sliver of fear pushed him into making an unbelievably stupid move.
His hand shot toward the sidearm at his waist, trying to grab the one thing that still represented authority and force control back into his hands. “This is your last warning. Get down, put your hands on your heads, now! Or else…”
He never got to finish the sentence.
The moment his fingers brushed the holster, the bodyguards in black across from him moved.
They moved perfectly in sync. So fast they left only blurred afterimages.
No one could even tell how they drew, charged, and aimed. The crowd only heard a low, unified hum as the weapons powered up.
In the next second, every public security officer had a high–energy pulse gun aimed dead center at his forehead or directly at his heart, every muzzle glowing with a dim blue light that promised instant death.
Those black gun barrels looked cold. Steady. Merciless.
The hands holding them didn’t shake at all, and the eyes behind them were calm, as if they were only checking positions at a firing range. That emotionless killing intent was far more frightening than any shouted threat.
The air seemed to freeze.
Every public security officer there, including Justin, who had been acting so fierce a moment earlier, froze where he stood. It felt like the blood in their bodies had turned into ice.
They had weapons, too. But compared to the dark, sleek energy guns in the bodyguards‘ hands, their own outdated sidearms looked pathetic. Anyone could tell the weapons of the other sides came from the military or from an elite private security force.
What frightened them even more was the pressure coming off those men and the fact that they clearly wouldn’t hesitate to shoot.
No one doubted that if they made one wrong move, their heads would explode like overripe fruit in the next second.
Justin jerked his hand off the holster like he’d touched red–hot iron. He threw both hands over his head at once. Every trace of color drained from his face. His lips trembled, and cold sweat streamed down from his temples.
The officers behind him looked no better. Pale, stiff, rooted in place. A few of them were shaking so badly their knees almost gave out.
Then, at that exact moment, calm, even, measured footsteps sounded out.

The crowd naturally parted and made a path.

Jeremy, still dressed in that flawless dark butler’s suit, walked forward at an unhurried pace.
His face held that same proper, polished air as always, as if this tense confrontation were nothing more than a normal scene.
Behind him stood Oliver’s butler, along with several other attendants who carried the same composure and presence, each of them clearly representing a different powerful family. One after another, they stepped forward and quietly took their places behind Jeremy.
Jeremy first cast a warm glance toward Elizabeth and her people, who were still being shielded by the black- clad bodyguards. He gave a slight nod. Only then did he seem to notice the guns aimed at the public security officers, and Justin and his men, pale and nearly collapsing.
He casually lifted a hand and pressed it down.
It was a silent command.
Immediately, every black–clad bodyguard lowered and holstered his weapon with neat, precise movements, then stepped back into formation around Elizabeth.
It was as if that deadly standoff had never happened at all. But the invisible pressure in the air didn’t lessen even a little.
Only then did Jeremy turn his gaze to Justin, whose clothes were soaked with sweat and whose legs were close to giving out.
His voice remained calm, even carrying a perfect note of polite confusion.
Deputy captain of the public security team, correct? he asked slowly, clearly enough for everyone to hear. “May I ask what exactly happened here that required such a large–scale deployment, to the point of drawing guns? My mistress, together with the mistresses of several longtime family friends, specifically sent us here today to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from Ms. Schofield. So what is the reason for this? Since when do lawful businesses at Mercury Plaza fall under special public security control and require this level of attention?”
Not one sentence was openly accusatory. But words like “lawful businesses,” “my mistress sent us,” and “buy fresh fruits and vegetables,” paired with the attendants behind him who so obviously represented major noble families, carried enough pressure to make Justin’s vision blur.
“O–official business!” Justin tried to straighten his back, but his voice came out weak and shaky. “We received a report that people here were gathering to cause trouble and sell unsafe products that threaten public safety! We’re carrying out official duties according to the law! And you… who are you people? How dare you obstruct law enforcement with violence?”
“Official business?” Jeremy’s voice stayed calm, but there was now an icy edge to it.
