Chapter 125
He could never let her go. She’d been the focus of his pursuit since childhood.
Losing her had nearly killed him–he’d been through it once, and he never wanted to experience it again.
A vice–like grip tightened around Damian’s heart, making every breath painful.
Even the proudest, most untouchable heir in New York had finally tasted the bitter fruit of regret.
He leaned down, his voice a broken whisper in her ear.
“Sophia, I’m sorry. You have every right to hate me.
“I was wrong–I was so wrong.”
Damian paused, watching her unchanging expression, before continuing carefully, almost pleading.
“My connection with Isabelle is not what you think. Will you let me tell you a story? When I was ten years old, my father—”
Before he could finish, Sophia began to struggle violently, lowering her head and biting down hard on the crook of his hand.

Her sharp teeth sank into his flesh, and the metallic taste of blood filled the air.
Damian let out a muffled groan as sharp pain shot up his hand.
He looked down to see her biting him fiercely, hatred burning in her eyes.
Bite me.
Let her get it out–this pain was nothing compared to easing
hers.
He gritted his teeth, enduring it until her struggles subsided and she finally let go.
Damian pulled his hand back, but before he could react, Sophia raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.
The sound echoed in the room. His head snapped to the side, but he didn’t make a sound.
Fury blazed in her eyes as she snarled, “Mr. Damian Hall, I am your future aunt. Show me some respect!
“Did the Hall family’s centuries–old reputation raise someone so shameless?”

Sophia wiped her lips roughly with the back of her hand, frowning as she scolded him coldly.
“Do you have any idea how many times you’d be ruined if someone had seen that little stunt outside?”
“I don’t care!” Damian retorted, raising an eyebrow as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her close.
Rage simmered in his eyes, his voice hoarse.
“Watching you lean into my uncle’s arms, letting him touch your hair, wrap his arm around your waist, hold your hand- watching him dote on you like no one else exists… It’s worse than killing me.
“That look of dependence you give him—trust I never once got from you. I’m so jealous it hurts.”
She was his wife, his most precious treasure, the woman he’d risked his life to marry,
But he’d been foolish, letting her slip away with his own hands. Now, Damian could only watch as she returned, proud and untouchable, as his uncle’s fiancée.
How could he not regret it? How could he not hate it?

months filled him with rage and jealousy, choking him.
How dare anyone claim his wife?
His whole body trembled, every word forced through gritted
teeth.
“Why him? Why Uncle Julian? Do you know how much this hurts?
“What does he have that I don’t? Why did you pick him to hurt me? If you wanted to make me suffer, Sophia, you’ve done it.
You’ve won…”
His voice trailed off, replaced by uncontrollable sobs.
Sophia was caught off guard. She’d known Damian for years, but she’d never seen him cry.
Could someone as cold–hearted as him really shed tears?
However, she felt no sympathy, pushing him away with a cold, distant tone.
“Mr. Damian Hall, I’ll say it again. I am not Sophia. You’ve mistaken me for someone else. Keep your distance–I don’t want Julian to be upset.”
Julian? You should call him uncle, just like I do.” Da ian 13:00

watched her intently for a few seconds before correcting her pointedly.
“You’re insane!” Sophia pushed him away forcefully, making a break for the door.
Damian’s expression darkened instantly, a storm brewing in his eyes. “We’re not done talking. Don’t leave!”
Just as her hand touched the doorknob, he grabbed her wrist, his grip so tight it felt like he would crush her bones.
Ignoring her frantic struggles, he pulled her onto the sofa and pinned her down.
