Chapter 21
Just then, Liam strode in with the lawyer, his eyes locking onto Isabelle practically draped over Damian.
His brow furrowed. He coughed awkwardly.
“Mr. Hall, paperwork’s done. Ms. Anderson gets a private room later. Oh, and Mrs. Hall called–says you need to get back to the Hall Residence for your meds.”
Damian nodded, murmured a few words to Isabelle, then left
with Liam.

Twenty minutes later, Damian pulled up to the Hall Residence. Every light blazing.
Eleanor sat ramrod straight in the parlor as if she’d been waiting specifically for him.
She’d raised three sons: Bradley, Daniel, and Julian.
The older two had families. But Julian remained single. He had left at twenty to expand overseas operations and never came back.
Bradley had retired from his cushy gig as Director at the National Economic Council and now spent his days

whole family abroad. They weren’t back yet.
But even overseas, Bradley had seen the trending scandal–his nephew Damian and Isabelle all over social media…
He’d always thought Damian and his wife were rock solid. Turns out the kid was living a double life.
Damian rubbed his exhausted eyes and sank into a chair.
Before he could even speak, Kevin Miller swooped in with his medical kit.

The four of them grew up together: Theodore, Damian, Bella, and Kevin. Closer than siblings.
The Halls paid for his med school. After graduation, he stayed at the Hall Residence, looking after Eleanor.
Kevin peeled off Damian’s shirt. The vicious wound on his back

He popped open his kit. Tweezers, scissors, antiseptic gauze.

Damian grunted low in his throat jaw clenched tight.
Kevin carefully lifted the gauze with tweezers and started cleaning the wound.
The cold antiseptic hit raw flesh. Sharp, searing pain. Damian’s fists clenched instantly, veins bulging on the backs of his hands. He bit down hard, enduring it.
“Mrs. Sophia Hall was really pissed this time. Mr. Hall, you shouldn’t have been messing around with Ms. Anderson on her mother’s death anniversary.”
Kevin kept talking while he worked, trying to distract him.
Damian squeezed his eyes shut. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead. His voice came out rough. “I’ll win Sophia back. You know how many times I’ve pissed her off since we were kids? She still married me in the end.”

Kevin sighed at his arrogance and finished bandaging him up.
When the last strip was tied off, Kevin exhaled in relief.
“This wound needs time. No water. No exertion. Sleep on your
side at night.”
He gla
meaningfully at Damian’s neck and added, “And
definitely no strenuous activity.”
Damian’s face darkened. Kevin thought he’d been having sex.
He reflexively covered his neck. “Got it, Dr. Miller.”
Kevin smiled and tactfully stepped aside.
Damian pulled on his jacket, stood up, and turned to Eleanor.
Voice low.
“Grandmother, I’m heading to bed.”
“Stop right there!” Eleanor’s voice cracked like a whip. Her eyes bore into him.
“Damian, that trending scandal with Ms. Anderson? Bradley saw it overseas. He called me specifically to ask what the hell is going on.
“You’re the Hall Group heir. CEO of Veridian Group. Everything you do affects our reputation. Our stock price.”
