Her Divorce, His Downfall (Sophia and Damian) novel Chapter 40

Chapter 40

“Useless! What kind of butler are you?”

Damian swept his hand across the table. A cup shattered with a piercing crash. Everyone froze.

His cold gaze swept over the pale-faced servants and bodyguards, voice hard as iron.

“All of you-couldn’t keep track of one person. I’m warning you now: if anything happens to Sophia, every single one of you is done in New York City.”

It wasn’t a threat. It was a promise. He had the power to make it happen.

No one dared speak. The tension was suffocating.

Damian dialed Sophia’s number again.

A familiar, ringtone rang out-from Frank’s pocket. The sound cut through the silence like a blade.

Damian’s eyes locked onto Frank like a predator zeroing

in/on prey.

“Why is her phone in your pocket?”

Frank fumbled for the phone and dropped to his knees, hands trembling as he held it up.

“M-Mr. Hall, I-I just thought Mr. Michael Anderson wanted to teach Ms. Sophia Anderson a lesson, so I confiscated it—”

Damian snatched the phone and shoved it in his pocket, face dark. He said nothing.

Frank’s forehead beaded with sweat. He shot a desperate look at Rhea.

She returned a sharp warning glare. Frank flinched, words choking in his throat. He was one second away from kowtowing.

“Mr. Hall, please forgive me! I-I can pull the security footage! The backyard has cameras!”

He led Damian and the others in a tense procession to the . security room.

But the backyard camera feed? Pitch black. 277

“Then why didn’t you report it, you idiot?!”

Frank looked ready to cough up blood.

“I thought… no one really goes back there…”

The guard wished he could disappear.

“You-!” Frank jabbed a finger at him, sputtering with rage, too furious to finish.

BANG!

Damian’s foot slammed into Frank’s side. The butler curled up in pain as Damian loomed over him, fury blazing.

“Three days. You have three days to find her. If you don’t, get the hell out of the Anderson family.”

Frank collapsed to the floor, his mind reeling.

That morning, he’d watched Damian treat Sophia with .cold indifference while being protective of Isabelle.

  • 9 when he caught Isabelle’s meaningful look, he’d taken it upon himself to withhold food and water from Sophia.

He thought he was currying favor with Isabelle, since everyone could see she was the family favorite.

He’d thought Damian didn’t give a damn about his wife. But now that she was gone? The man looked damn near unhinged.

Now he was truly screwed. He regretted misjudging this whole damn thing.

Rhea tugged on Michael’s sleeve and gave him a meaningful look.

Michael caught on immediately and stepped in to smooth things over.

“Damian, Frank has served our family for many years. He messed up this time, but we can’t blame him entirely. Maybe Sophia got stubborn and ran off on her own without telling anyone, just to worry the family. You know her well. Don’t worry-the Anderson family will do everything to find her.”

“That’s right, Damian. We don’t even know what really happened yet. Aren’t you being a bit too paranoid?” Rhea raised an eyebrow with a faint smile.

At the time, Isabelle had been crying about being in pain, and he’d lost patience, making up an excuse to brush Dorothy off.

Could she have actually needed something?

He immediately pulled up Dorothy’s number and called. Straight to voicemail.

He tried again. Same thing.

Damian stared at his phone in disbelief.

The heir to New York City’s Hall family-blocked by his own housekeeper?

If word got out, those trust fund brats would laugh him

out of town.

He shoved down the surge of anger, face darkening as he addressed the Andersons coldly.

“Dad, since you say you’ll handle it-do it fast. If there’s no news in three days, I’m coming back myself to get her.”
