Bella caught the determined look in Sophia’s eyes and instantly understood her intention.

So blunt it bordered on reckless. Connor found himself

somewhat overwhelmed, coughing awkwardly. “Miss Hall, Sophia and I are ancient history. You shouldn’t say things like that-if your brother overhears, he’ll lose his mind again.”

In truth, he worried Damian would take his jealousy out on Sophia. He’d experienced that man’s possessiveness firsthand.

“Why should I be afraid of him?” Bella’s anger flared at the mention, her lips curling in disgust. “If you ask me, you should have fought harder to steal Sophia away back then. My brother is so biased it’s ridiculous-he doesn’t deserve a wife.”

Good God, this little spitfire would say anything.

Connor watched her face flush with indignation, noting her delicate, upturned nose that was now slightly swollen and red.

Something warm settled in his chest, a smile creeping into his

eyes.

“You can’t joke about things like that!” His voice unconsciously softened. “I’m afraid if your brother found out, he’d come after you too. Does your nose still hurt? Would you like to come to my office so I can take a look?”

“Sure!” Bella agreed cheerfully, stepping forward to naturally loop her arm through his. “Thanks, Dr. Wilson.”

The girl’s fresh, light fragrance immediately surrounded him, and the soft pressure against his arm made Connor’s entire body

tense.

Aside from Sophia, he’d never enjoyed physical contact with

women.

Isabelle loved dragging him to extreme sports-racing, bungee jumping, skiing. After reluctantly participating a few times, he found it all pointless.
