Her Divorce, His Downfall (Sophia and Damian) novel Chapter 89

Chapter 89

Back then, when Elaine had said those words to him, all he’d felt was unease and confusion.

He’d assumed she was speaking that way because of his place in the Hall family.

But now… he was starting to understand.

Maybe Elaine had seen something-something he’d never dared to face himself.

And yet… he couldn’t say any of it to Sophia.

All he could do was repeat her words… to answer her.

Sophia’s face went even paler at his reply.

Tears welled up again, spilling over as her voice trembled.

“I’m sorry, Mom… I didn’t know… I was the one holding you back. It’s all my fault…”

Julian lifted a hand, brushing her tears away gently.

“It’s not your fault, Sophia,” he said softly.

moving forward.”

Her nose reddened as more tears streaked her cheeks.

“I know… but every time I think about what she went through… I just can’t stop crying.”

Her quiet, trembling words pressed on something deep inside Julian-a dull, gnawing ache.

“Alright,” he murmured, a faint, helpless warmth in his voice.

“If you need to cry, then cry. It’ll help.”

“But… you know Elaine wouldn’t want to see you like this,” he said gently.

“All she ever wanted… was for you to be happy.”

Happy?

Did she ever really get the chance?

Her husband had abandoned her again and again, leaving her in danger without a second thought.

Every time she’d come close to dying, it had been someone else

who saved her.

The first time-when she was locked away-it was Connor.

The second-when she was attacked in the hospital—it was

Garrett.

The third-the explosion-it was Julian.

She’d lost count of how many times someone else had saved her

life.

And yet… not once. Not a single time… had it been her husband.

The thought cut through her like a cold wind, leaving a hollow ache spreading through her chest.

Seeing her go quiet, her expression clouded with pain, Julian’s chest tightened.

But he kept his face composed as he asked softly, “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

Sophia shook her head, then seemed to make up her mind.

Her voice dropped-quiet, but firm.

“I want a divorce. I’ve already sent him two agreements. He still

Basn’t signed.”

“I don’t understand… he doesn’t love me. So why won’t he let me go?”

Divorce.

The word hit Julian like a thunderclap.

His body froze.

For a moment, his mind went completely blank.

Only her words echoed-

I want a divorce.

Did that mean… he finally had a chance?

A surge of emotion coursed through him, so strong his hand clenched into a fist.

It took a long moment before he could steady himself and speak again.

“Sophia… have you really thought this through? You won’t-”

“I have.”

She cut him off, her gaze steady.

“There’s no point staying with someone who doesn’t love me. If he’s just going to keep hurting me for someone else… I’d rather walk away on my own terms.”

Julian fell quiet.

A thousand questions rushed through his mind, but in the end… he kept them to himself.

T

His thumb brushed lightly across her forehead, gentle and

careful.

“Alright,” he said softly. “Whatever you decide, I’ll support you. But right now… your priority is to recover.”

“Once you’re fully healed, I’ll dig into everything and get to the bottom of it. After that… we’ll decide what comes next. Divorce. Revenge. Whatever you want.”

Sophia trusted him completely-more than anyone else, even family.

With him here, everything suddenly felt manageable.

She nodded firmly.

Julian let go of her cheek, then, like before, pulled her gently against his shoulder, patting her back.

“Be good. Take your medicine and get some rest. Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

Gradually, Sophia relaxed in his arms.
