Chapter 6
I strode over and ripped the proposal out of Rose’s hands.
Ripped it in half. Right there.
Then quarters. Eighths.
I threw the confetti in her perfect face.
“You want my work? Dream on.”
“I quit. The project, the job, all of it.”
“Now get out of my sight. Or I’ll call the cops and sue.”
Rose screamed, covered her face, ducked into Lucas’s arms.
Lucas jumped up, pointing. “Nina! Are you insane?”
I looked at them. At the matching rings on their fingers. Smiled wide.
“Yeah. I’m insane.”
“You drove me insane.”
“I’m done.”
I ripped off my badge, threw it on the floor, and walked.
Didn’t look back at Jason. Not once. Even when he roared behind me, “Nina! Walk out
that door and don’t come crawling back!”
Crawling?
Jason, you overestimate yourself.
