After the meeting, Ethan followed me into the hallway.
Just us.
“Leg still hurt?” he asked.
I tensed, ready to deflect. “No.”
He sighed. Walked in front of me. Crouched down. In front of everyone. Gently pressed my knee.
“You stood too long in there. Next time, insult them sitting down. Same effect.”
I stared at this billionaire. Looking up at me. His usually cold eyes reflected a small me.
No mockery. No impatience. Just something I’d never even imagined, care.
“Mr. Peterson…”
He took my hand.
“Nina. From now on, if you don’t want to take it, you don’t take it. I don’t care what it is, I’ve got your back.”
