Celia stormed out of Maple Yard, fuming.

Soon, Vivian’s birthday came around.

Early in the morning, one of Flora’s maids came by to deliver a message, saying that there would be a party in Hearthstone Court in the evening.

Vivian had already heard about it from Celia, so she wasn’t surprised at all.

She just gave the maid a soft smile and said she got it.

In the evening, she arrived early at Hearthstone Court. Beatrice, Flora, and Sylvia were already there, but Quentin and Celia hadn’t returned yet.

Vivian, come sit next to me,Beatrice called out, waving her over.

Beatrice had grown fonder of Vivian. Despite being a child of a concubine, Vivian carried herself with such grace that no flaw could be found.

Moreover, with her kind heart and sharp intellect, Beatrice naturally felt drawn to her.

Vivian greeted the elders, then settled in beside Beatrice and chatted with them.

Seeing Vivian chatting so happily with Beatrice, Sylvia felt her mood sour, a flicker of annoyance stirring in her.

She’d always thought she’d raised Vivian to be useless on purpose and turned her into someone disfigured and plain, stubborn in temperament, and poor with words.

Quentin couldn’t stand Vivian and was just waiting for her to come of age so he could marry her off to a random guy just to get rid of her.

Sylvia had already made up her mind to have Vivian wed her nephew.

However, things turned out completely contrary to her expectations.

Instead of being hated by everyone in Aurea Manor, Vivian had actually won the favor of Beatrice and Flora. Meanwhile, Charles had been severely punished, his back a bloody mess, and he still could not walk.

Sylvia thought, This girl just keeps making things difficult for me.

Suddenly, footsteps approached from outside.

Vivian looked up and saw Quentin returning, followed by Matthew, Celia, and a tall, elegant, strikingly handsome young

man.

It was Stephan.

Beatrice had met Stephan once before, and since he was Celia’s teacher, she respected him greatly. She immediately stood

and went over to greet him.

up

She smiled. Mr. Landon, you rarely show up. What brings you to Aurea Manor?

I serve as a member of Pinecrest Academy, but I rarely teach or deal with relevant matters, so I thought I’d take Matthew with me for a trip back to Aurestus,Stephan replied.

Stephan wore a gentle smile, but Vivian sensed trouble the moment she saw him.

With Stephan’s backing, no matter how clueless or wild Matthew got, as long as he didn’t make any huge mistakes, no one could touch his place in the family.

Celia shot Vivian a smug look, silently saying that even if she didn’t help, Matthew would come back anyway.

Vivian ignored her, but Celia just wouldn’t quit.

She went ahead and introduced Vivian to Stephan. Mr. Landon, this is my younger sister, Vivian.

Stephan was one of the greatest scholars, and even Quentin treated him with respect,

Naturally, Vivian paid her respects with a polite bow.

Vivian, you might be slight in frame, yet fiery in temperament. You nearly kicked your own brother out over a disagreement. Honestly, I was impressed,” Stephan said, a hint of sarcasm in his eyes.

On their way back to Aurestus from Pinecrest Academy, Matthew vented all his frustrations and complaints to Stephan.

Stephan found it tiresome, but it also helped him pinpoint the real issue.

He found that Vivian was the one meddling behind the scenes, causing Matthew to end up in this mess.

Everyone had their own biases, and Stephan, as a scholar, was no exception.

He trusted Celia, the student he’d mentored, and he trusted Matthew, who studied at Pinecrest Academy. He just didn’t trust Vivian.

Flora wanted to speak up for Vivian, but Matthew stepped in front of her, blocking the way. He shot Vivian a fierce glare, his smile twisted and almost cruel.

Vivian, it’s been a long time,he said through gritted teeth.

Vivian called out sweetly, Yeah. Welcome back, Matt.

She did it on purpose, just to get under his skin.

As expected, Matthew’s expression contorted in repulsion, making Vivian feel quietly triumphant.

Beatrice stepped in to smooth things over. The food is ready. Let’s get started.”

Everyone took their seats.

Celia sat between Stephan and Matthew, who both showered her with attention, in stark contrast to how they treated Vivian.

Vivian pushed the food around her plate, utterly unenthused.

During the meal, Beatrice and Flora each gave Vivian an emerald bracelet and an emerald necklace as presents.

Sylvia also brought something for Vivian. It was a reticule embroidered with trees.

Sylvia said softly, Vivian, you’ve been going out a lot lately. There are all kinds of bugs and critters outside, and if you get. bitten, that could be a disaster. I got you some special pills, and they-

She took Vivian’s hand, her tone gentle and her face full of motherly affection.

However, the gift she had prepared for Vivian was, in the end, just a handful of those pills.

Vivian flashed Sylvia a sweet thank you and carefully opened the reticule.

Inside, she found over a dozen pills.

Vivian picked up one and noticed a tiny pinhole on its pale surface.

Clearly, the wax seal was broken. If carried close, she could soon inhale enough Deadly Nightshade powder to lose her

senses.

Vivian smiled faintly and thanked her. She was curious how Sylvia knew the pillseffects. She thought, Was it Celia who told her, or did she figure it out herself?’

Vivian leaned toward the first explanation.

She thought, So, it seems that in my previous life, Xavier and Celia might not have planned His Highness’s confinement, but they were definitely part of it. Otherwise, there’s no way they’d be so familiar with how Deadly Nightshade powder works.

When Vivian took the reticule and hooked it to her belt, Celia felt much better.

She believed that it wouldn’t be long before Vivian went crazy. By then, even if Beatrice and Flora tried to shield her, they’d have to think about the Snyder family’s reputation.

She was sure that there was no way they would keep someone like Vivian around. Most likely, they’d ship Vivian off to some remote estate, with a bunch of servants to look after her.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Celia was itching to see it happen.

She raised her glass in a toast to Vivian. Vivian, happy birthday.

Thank you, Celia,Vivian replied.

Vivian stood up and made her way over to Celia. As she passed Matthew, she covertly broke open one of the pills in her palm with her fingernail.

The Deadly Nightshade powder wafted through the air, and Matthew got the worst of it, hacking and coughing nonstop.

Vivian held her breath, tapped her glass against Celia’s, then made up an excuse about needing to change and slipped out of the dining hall.

She washed her hands thoroughly, making absolutely sure there wasn’t a single speck of Deadly Nightshade powder left before finally letting herself relax.

By the time Vivian returned, everyone had already had a few rounds of drinks.

Matthew, frustrated and dissatisfied, drank the most. He usually handled alcohol easily, but today, he felt dizzy, his eyes bloodshot.

Matthew shook his head, trying to clear the haze, but suddenly, the scene from the Festival of Fortune flashed before his

eyes.

He sawVivian handing Enoch a small white bottle, whose contents had been the key to the Silvermoon Twinbloom bloom.

Matthew shot to his feet, jabbing a finger at Vivian and yelling, You damn fool. How dare you team up with His Highness to trick His Majesty? Are you trying to get us all killed?

Vivian gave him an innocent look. Matt, you’re drunk.

Matthew sneered. I’m not. I saw it with my own eyes that you handed the bottle to His Highness, making the Silvermoon
