Luckily, Alex got to her in time. When he got to the pool’s edge, a few men rushed to assist him to bring Isla out. Where she was laid still on the tiled floor. Alex climbed out as quickly as possible using the silver metallic ladder.
He bent down, his ear hovering over her lips to check if she was still breathing, but there was nothing. Without wasting time, he went in for a mouth–to–mouth respiration but there was nothing. He combined CPR with it. His clasped fingers pushed gently on her chest in rhythmic motions but there was no movement from Isla’s still body.
Noah watched in disarray. He ran his hand through his hair in frustration. What made her drink a lot? Was it because of the call she got earlier? She had returned to the restaurant with a stern face.
Noah felt the urge to push Alex aside away from her but he couldn’t. His fist clenched tightly whenever Alex does mouth–to–mouth respiration, an involuntary movement that he doesn’t seem to notice.
After a few minutes, Isla jerked up, coughing out water. Her eyes darted to the worried face staring down at her. Her face flushed up immediately out of embarrassment.
“Get me a towel!” Alex yelled and soon a petite man came running with a towel neatly folded and draped on his arm.
Alex collected it and wrapped Isla in it. “Here you go princess,” he pats her wet hair gently. “What is your name?”
“I…Isla,” She stuttered.
People began to disperse slowly, she had given them a jumpscare. Why did she drink that much? Isla thought to herself in confusion.
“Isla,” Alex repeated. “British, huh?”
Isla nodded slightly, her gaze moved to Noah, who had an unreadable expression on his face.
He must be disappointed. She had embarrassed him in front of these important people.
“Here,” Alex stood up, holding out his hand for Isla. As she took it, he pulled her up. Their bodies collided for a brief second before they sprang apart. “I’m Alex Hawthorne. The host of this party. Are you here alone?”
Isla turned to Noah, who avoided her gaze. She felt a sharp twinge in her chest but before she would answer, he interrupted them.
“Thank you so much, Alex,” Noah said, breaking through the crowd to reach the spot where they stood. He glanced at Isla. “Let’s go get you cleaned up.”
“Do you know her, Mr. Cross?” Alex asked, genuinely confused as he watched Isla move towards Noah.
“She is my secretary,” Noah replied. “Thank you for tonight, I had a wonderful time but we have to leave before she catches a cold and I wouldn’t want that, would you Mr. Alex?” he asked with a stern unreadable expression.
Alex smiled, droplets of water trickling down from his drenched body. His hair strands were now sticky and

wet, a few drops rolled down his face and sat on his long eyelashes.
“A good secretary is a CEO’s most prized possession. I wonder what one can do without them. Have a good night and you’re welcome anytime.”
A drenched and cold Isla stood watching the men’s unreadable expressions, each held something that would start a fight if it were to be exposed but somehow they managed to keep a straight face. Alex stretched out his palm in Noah’s direction, waiting for a handshake.
“Absolutely,” Noah replied, shaking Alex’s outstretched hand. “Let’s go.” He commanded, turning to leave without sparing Isla a glance.
Isla’s shivering legs found it hard to keep up with Noah’s long strides. She felt nauseous and weak but dared not stop. She followed from behind, tugging at the hem of the already wet towel to avoid it falling and exposing her to the harsh cold breeze of the night.
Noah’s driver immediately started the car as he saw Noah approaching, he drove over to where Noah was and stopped. Seeing this, Isla quickened her steps and got to the car in no time. She climbed onto the front passenger seat, dripping with water. The confused driver looked over at her with his eyebrows knitted.
“What happened to you?” he whispered, glancing briefly at the rearview mirror to look at Noah, who seemed to have his attention taken away by the serenity.
“I fell into the pool,” Isla stuttered shivering.
Before the amazed driver who speak again, Noah chimed in.
“Drive,” he commanded a single word that held great strength.

The telecom blare in the living room, soon came Brenda’s approaching footsteps leading to the door. She glanced at the little device on the wall that showed her the person behind the door and rolled her eyes. She tightened the knot of her red robe and hesitantly pulled open the door and he came in. Ryan.
“What are you doing here? It’s late and your brother is not at home?” Brenda informed, walking away into. the hallway.
“We know damn well, I did not come for my brother,” Ryan replied, glancing at the woman swaying her hips in front of him. This sent jolts of adrenaline throughout his body and he licked his lips.
Brenda stopped, she glanced over her shoulder to face the young man who was in her living room. “What
did
you come for then?”
Ryan walked over to meet her, his hands snaked themselves around her waist and his lips found her neck.
“Hmm, vanilla just how I like it,” he mumbled, inhaling sharply.
Brenda tried to free herself from his grip but he tightened it, “Ryan, we need to stop this.”
Ryan began planting kisses on her neck, which made her tilt her head to the side. Ryan chuckled softly on her skin, “Are you sure?” he asked, biting the skin on her neck gently.
