After helping Samantha clean up, Leonardo returned to his study to continue working.
With nothing to do, she curled up on the couch in the living room, scrolling through her phone. Sometimes, having so much free time made her feel a little guilty.
Just then, a notification popped up on her screen. "Account ending in XXXX received a deposit of one million on December 28 at 9:32 pm. The current balance is 1.3 million."
Samantha was in disbelief. Her eyes widened in shock.
There was a saying that before fortune was bestowed upon someone, one must first endure hardship and trials. At this moment, seeing the deposit, she felt like all her struggles had been worth it. She was this close to crying from excitement.
With trembling fingers, she opened her chat with Leonardo. "Thank you, Mr. Garrett!"
She also sent a few rose emojis. No number of roses could truly capture the depth of her gratitude right now.
At this moment, he was no longer just a man in her eyes—he was a divine figure radiating pure golden light. Was this the sheer power of money?
Leonardo asked, "Did Simon transfer you the money?"
Samantha replied, "Yes!"
She continued to send a few more rose emojis.
He wrote, "We live under the same roof. If you really want to say thanks, don't you think texting me feels a bit insincere?"
She replied, "Got it!"
Ten minutes later, Samantha appeared at the study door, carrying a plate of freshly cut fruit.
"Mr. Garrett, would you like some fruit?"
Her voice was so sweet and delicate that it sent a shiver down Leonardo's spine. For a moment, he almost wondered if something unholy had entered his house.
Then, he saw her little head peeking through the door, grinning at him. "Do you want some?"
Somehow, that was even more terrifying.
"It's really tasty and sweet!"
Leonardo felt a vein throb on his forehead. "Can you act normal?"
"No, I have to stay up with you until the end, Mr. Garrett!"
Leonardo looked at her helplessly, then added, "Stop calling me 'Mr. Garrett' all the time. Just use my name, or call me Leo like everyone else."
"Sometimes it just slips out."
"I'll deduct your pay next month."
Samantha instantly straightened up. "Got it!"
Talking about money would hurt relationships, but it was an effective way to make her remember.
"Go to sleep."
"Okay, Mr—" She barely caught herself before blurting out "Mr. Garrett." Swallowing the word at the last second, she quickly pivoted. "Goodnight, honey!"
Leonardo, who had been flipping through a document, suddenly froze. His head snapped up, his sharp gaze following her retreating figure, and his pupils contracted in shock.
Did she just call him "honey"?
