He's an Alpha: She doesn't Care (Jennifer Francis) novel Chapter 16

She’s Beyond His Rule 16 Summary Wynta is recovering in a hospital after sustaining a painful knee injury and a wound on her side. Though the surgeon has treated her wound well, her knee will require a long recovery period with a brace and restricted mobility. She is determined not to leave the hospital for another pack’s facility, despite pressure from Jared Hayes and his Beta, Dwane, who are present in her hospital room. Wynta firmly refuses to go anywhere with Jared, asserting her independence and rejecting his authority over her.

The tension between Wynta and Jared escalates as she accuses him of sending a hurtful text message that made her distrust him and his intentions. Jared denies ever sending the message, claiming he only recently obtained her number and is confused about who could have sent it. Wynta remains skeptical and highlights Jared’s unauthorized intrusion into her apartment, which only deepens her mistrust. Jared insists that she will be transferred to another hospital as directed by the insurance company, but Wynta resists, determined to stay where she is until officially discharged.

Throughout the chapter, Wynta’s defiance and self-reliance are clear, as she refuses to be controlled or coerced by Jared or his pack. Jared, on the other hand, is frustrated but persistent, trying to assert his influence and uncover the truth behind the mysterious message. The chapter ends with Jared leaving the room to investigate further, while Wynta contemplates her situation, caught between the warmth of the sunny day outside and the turmoil of her conflicted emotions inside.

Continue Regular Chapter Reading Below She had firmly decided she would not set foot in that pack’s hospital, and honestly, there was no real need for her to do so. She had already been here for five days, and in just a couple more, once the course of antibiotics was complete, she would be discharged and allowed to return to her own home. The wound on her side still throbbed painfully whenever she shifted, but if she was completely honest with herself, it was nothing compared to the relentless ache in her knee.

The surgeon had performed an excellent job with the wound, but the knee injury was a different matter altogether. It was going to have to mend gradually, on its own timeline. She had been told that, given the severity of the damage, the minimum recovery period would be twelve weeks. During at least six to eight of those weeks, she would have to wear a brace-though that brace would be gradually downgraded as the pain subsided and the knee regained stability. She was aware that the physiotherapist planned to fit her with a new type of brace before she went home.

It was a more manageable, pull-on model with an opening over the knee, reinforced by metal springs running down each side, designed specifically to support MCL injuries. The physio had even shown her a picture of it, and she had to admit it looked far less cumbersome than what she had been wearing. However, she had also been warned that walking five blocks to and from her office would be out of the question for at least the first four weeks. Her surgeon had been present for that conversation and had advised her to take at least another week off work to allow the surgical wound to heal fully.

So, after this week in the hospital, she was due an additional week of rest. That suited her perfectly. She had plenty of sick leave banked up, and she rarely, if ever, fell ill-a trait she attributed to her wolfen heritage, even though she was currently without her wolf. Her gaze drifted to Jared, who was sitting quietly in the chair beside her bed. She wondered why he thought she would agree to go anywhere with him. As she looked from Jared to Dwane, who now leaned casually against the doorframe of the four-bed ward, she realized that Dwane was likely Jared’s Beta.

He certainly wasn’t the Gamma-he hadn’t tried to touch her or employ that irresistible charm that seemed to come naturally to some wolfen. Dwane appeared relaxed, confident in his role, and the fact that she had never seen him before suggested he was part of Jared’s unit. Over the years, she had encountered all of Edward’s sons and their units-except for this one. He smiled at her from the doorway, a smile full of certainty that they would get what they wanted, just as all Alphas and their units did. Her eyes returned to Jared, and she felt no interest whatsoever in accompanying him anywhere.

Not even with the assurance that Edward wouldn’t initiate her into the pack. She knew he understood that forcing her there was a mistake-she wasn’t going to walk willingly into that place. “You can both leave,” she said simply, her voice firm as she turned her gaze away from him and out the window. – The day outside was bright and sunny, a stark contrast to the storm and heavy rains that had battered the city just a week before. Birds flitted through the air, their cheerful chirping filling the garden below.

Hospital staff sipped coffee on benches, and patients sat with their families, enjoying the fresh air and warmth. “I’m not going anywhere with you, Mr. Hayes,” she repeated, making sure he heard her clearly, just as she had made her position clear to his Beta earlier. “I don’t know you any more than I know that man over there who claims to be my brother. I’m guessing that’s a lie, meant to convince the hospital staff to release me into his care.

But anything could happen to me if I leave with a stranger.” Jared muttered half-heartedly, “Father insists I bring you in.” She snorted softly, glancing back out the window. It was obvious to her that this was an order from Edward, and Jared had no choice but to obey. She wondered what else was tied to that demand. Perhaps this was Edward’s way of punishing Jared for her refusal to attend the Luna Ceremony, for not allowing herself to be initiated into the pack when Edward had thought he had finally won. Instead, his son had ruined everything.
