We Meant Something But Not Enough by Arven Kross 16
She’s Beyond His Rule 17 Summary Jared leaves Wynta alone in her hospital room, recognizing her strong resistance to joining the pack, just as his father had predicted. He realizes that Wynta’s refusal to be part of the pack is deeply rooted, and that her earlier claim of being swept away by floodwaters was actually her deliberate rejection of the pack after feeling abandoned by him during the storm.
Jared understands that bringing her into the pack will be difficult, especially since she sees him as rude and disrespectful, and he acknowledges that his breaking into her apartment was an overstep, even if done out of urgency. As Jared discusses the situation with his Beta, Dwane, they consider the possibility that Lotti, a woman jealous of Wynta, might have sent a misleading text to Wynta, telling her Jared wouldn’t come to get her.
They explore Lotti’s motives and background, noting her complaints about Wynta supposedly stealing a marketing job, which seems unlikely given Wynta’s lack of experience. They also question how Lotti could have obtained Wynta’s phone number and why she would want to cause trouble between Jared and Wynta. Jared reflects on his position as the pack’s heir and the challenges of managing his company overseas while dealing with internal pack politics. He plans to send his brothers Ethan or Colby to represent him in Europe while he focuses on integrating Wynta into the pack.
Both Jared and Dwane agree that Wynta’s initiation will take time, as she is stubborn and distrustful, and that they must proceed carefully. The conversation ends with Jared acknowledging the difficulty ahead and deciding to prioritize getting Wynta admitted to Cedar Rapids Hospital before attempting any further steps. He accepts that patience and gradual progress are necessary to navigate the complex dynamics between Wynta, the pack, and his father’s expectations.
Continue Regular Chapter Reading Below Jared He left Wynta alone in her hospital room, giving her space to come to terms with the reality that she would be going with him, whether she wanted to or not. His father’s assessment of her had been spot on. Now Jared understood why she was such a challenge to bring into the pack, just as his father had predicted. Wynta clearly didn’t want to be part of the pack. There was a deep-seated resistance to pack life within her that needed to be addressed before anything could move forward.
That raised eyebrow she gave him when he mentioned her being swept away by floodwaters made sense now. She hadn’t been carried away by circumstances beyond her control; she had deliberately turned her back on the pack after he had left her standing alone in that storm. Everything that had happened that day-the confrontation between them, the perfectly timed text message-had weighed heavily on her. He believed she wasn’t lying about the message. She had no reason to fabricate it, since it made clear he wasn’t coming to collect her.
He hadn’t wanted to pick her up or bring her into the pack himself. From her perspective, he had come across as rude, arrogant, and selfish. He’d even broken into her apartment, just as she had accused him. But that intrusion had been driven by urgency-he needed to know if she had found her own way to the Luna Ceremony or had simply chosen not to attend. Still, it was an overreach. He had violated her privacy, no matter how small the space she called home.
He had entered the dwelling of a rogue she-wolf, operating under the Alpha’s assumption that he could do as he pleased without consequence. At the time, he hadn’t known she was rogue, but he had a feeling Wynta wouldn’t care about that distinction. He was fairly certain the text she showed him was the exact message she had received. There was no reason for her to doubt it was from him. After that, he’d dropped her out of his car without a second thought. From the moment she saw him, he’d shown her nothing but disrespect.
Though she was a rogue, she still worked for his father, who was trying to bring her into the pack. Every action he took spoke volumes to her, and she hadn’t hesitated to tell him exactly what she thought before stepping out of his car. She believed he would never respect her and didn’t care about her feelings. Bringing Wynta into the pack was going to be a nightmare-exactly as his father expected. Jared knew that to allow her initiation, she needed to be part of the pack, and right now, he wasn’t even allowed inside unless he brought her with him.

He couldn’t leave the pack until she was initiated either. Claim Despite his age and living outside the pack, his father remained his Alpha, and Jared had to obey his commands if he wanted to keep his place as the pack’s heir. He could abandon the title and walk away, but he had worked too hard to build wealth for himself and the pack to give up now. He had done what none of his three brothers had managed-established a thriving company overseas that brought new prosperity to the pack. That alone proved he was capable of leading and expanding their territory.
Walking down the corridor with Dwane, Jared moved far enough away so Wynta wouldn’t overhear their conversation. He wasn’t sure if she possessed wolfen senses. Some without wolfen blood had sharper senses than humans; others had none at all. It mostly depended on their bloodline. “Where’s Gordon?” Jared asked. “He went to talk with Wynta’s doctor, I think. You’re suspecting Lotti sent that text to Wynta, aren’t you?” Dwane replied. “It’s possible. Though if Lotti deleted it and Wynta’s phone is water-damaged and unusable, we might never know.” Jared shook his head.
