He's an Alpha: She doesn't Care (Jennifer Francis) novel Chapter 22

She’s Beyond His Rule 22 Summary The next morning, Wynta notices the dress bag Jared had tried to give her, along with a note insisting she accept it with no strings attached. Despite her frustration, she tosses the note away. Jamie, a coworker, teases Wynta about her relationship with Jared, but Wynta firmly denies any romantic involvement, explaining the dress was ruined after Jared put her out of his car, causing her injury. Jamie presses for gossip, but Wynta shuts down the conversation, emphasizing her professionalism and disinterest in office drama.

Wynta, wary of rumors, decides to return the dress to Jared to stop the gossip. She entrusts the bag to his secretary, Stacey, instructing her to tell Jared she refuses the gift and wants no personal deliveries. Stacey is surprised but complies. Later, Stacey returns with a cheque from Jared, who offers money instead of the dress, threatening to stay in Wynta’s office until she accepts one or the other. Wynta calls his bluff and refuses the cheque.

Shortly after, Jared arrives in person, carrying the dress and coffee, and sits in Wynta’s office, determined to make her accept the gift or payment. He insists he personally bought the dress, not the company, and reveals his intention to stay involved in the business long-term. Despite Wynta’s insistence that the dress and the wedding meant little to her, Jared remains persistent, even joking about moving into the office and charming everyone until he gets what he wants. Eventually, Wynta reluctantly accepts the cheque, explaining she had planned to sell the dress anyway.

Jared thanks her loudly for helping arrange penthouse apartments for him and his friends, offering coffee for her team as a gesture. As he leaves, Wynta is left with mixed feelings of annoyance and amusement amid the quiet office atmosphere. She shook her head in quiet disbelief at the sight before settling into her chair.

As she opened her laptop, her eyes caught a note card resting atop it. Reading the message, she found Jared’s words: “You’ll accept the dress, there are no strings attached to it, Jared.” A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she stared at the note for a moment, then, with a sense of resignation, she crumpled it slightly and tossed it into the waste bin beside her desk. Just then, Jamie, one of the other marketing supervisors, leaned casually against Wynta’s doorframe, a sly grin playing on her lips.

“Well, well, looks like Jared Hayes has you wrapped around his finger,” Jamie teased, nodding toward the dress bag. “First, he picks you up for his brother’s wedding, now he’s buying you clothes? I saw him personally drop that off this morning. So, spill it-are you two an item or what?” Her tone was light, but the underlying curiosity was unmistakable. Wynta immediately recognized Jamie’s intent-just another office gossip hungry for juicy details. “I hardly know him, and we are definitely not dating,” Wynta replied firmly. “My dress was ruined before the wedding, and he’s just replacing it.

That’s all there is to it.” Jamie raised an eyebrow, smirking knowingly. “Oh, so he ruined your dress, huh?” Wynta instantly regretted divulging that detail. She knew Jamie would twist it into some scandalous story and spread it like wildfire. Rumors like that could be dangerous, and Wynta was determined to nip it in the bud. “Mr. Hayes put me out of his car before we even reached the wedding,” Wynta explained calmly, “and I got injured in the process. That’s why the dress ended up ruined.” She met Jamie’s gaze steadily.

“You do know I was off work after being hospitalized and having surgery, right?” Jamie nodded slowly. “Yeah, I heard about that. But seriously, why did he put you out? Don’t tell me you were rude to the handsome devil himself-the eldest son of your employer and a confirmed bachelor.” Suppressing a flicker of irritation, Wynta smiled politely. “I treated him no differently than I treat anyone else, Jamie. Including you.” She emphasized the point clearly. “Now, do you actually need something work-related, or are you just here to stir up gossip?” Tsking, Jamie shook her head.

“Wynta, you really don’t know how to catch a man, do you? You’re supposed to smile, flirt, flatter-boost their ego, not dismiss or humble them. Flattery goes a long way. You should try it sometime. Maybe then you’d get a date once in a while.” Wynta arched an eyebrow. “Or maybe I just don’t care to date, or be a slave to a man’s every whim. If that’s your thing, go ahead, but it’s not the 1800s anymore.” Jamie shot her a glare before turning on her heel and stalking away. Wynta rolled her eyes, wondering why anyone thought that was the way to attract a man.

Being authentic was far simpler-people should know the real you. Still, seeing that dress bag and knowing Jared had personally delivered it meant trouble was brewing. Wynta realized she’d have to return the dress to him to halt the office rumors. She didn’t need the kind of trouble that could cost her her job. She knew all too well how damaging gossip could be. Her mind drifted to the painful memory of losing her last position. A man in a higher-up role had taken an interest in her. When she politely but firmly rejected him, he retaliated by spreading false rumors.

When confronted, he had the audacity to suggest she could stop the gossip if she “bent over his desk.” She had slapped him, and he turned the tables by accusing her of sexual harassment and physical assault. As a newcomer, her word was no match for his spotless record. She was ousted, and the experience left her wary. Now, Wynta always kept a small camera in her office, cleverly disguised as a mantle clock on the middle shelf behind her. It recorded both video and audio-a silent witness to protect her.

It was the only personal item she had brought into the office, and no one ever questioned it, assuming it was just a decorative clock. After a long moment of staring at the dress bag, Wynta finally stood, picked it up, and headed upstairs to the tenth floor. There, she handed it to Stacey, Jared’s secretary. Stacey frowned at the bag, then at Wynta herself, clearly expecting an explanation. Wynta didn’t hesitate. “Please return this to Mr. Hayes. I don’t want the gossip it’s causing in my department. Also, remind him I declined the dress yesterday and I’m still declining it today.
